I'm 'bout my money if it kills me.

So the original plan was, in celebration of last night's victory over the first draft, to chill out after dinner and watch another episode of Generation Kill then pass out. But here I am, at 11.30 PM, still working. ON YET ANOTHER PROJECT!!!

I can console myself in the fact that this, too, is for academic credit. And in the fact that my beginning it with only 3 days left in February is a bit of delinquency on my part. But, work has indeed begun on Snow Dogs. It's nice to finally be able to concretize some of the ideas I've had about this story, and I imagine it'll ultimately be better than the novella that spawned it. The plan as of now is to have it as the first in a trilogy chronicling Ilia and Selim's friendship. Originally the novella was to be a bridge between A Season in Tears and View from Masada, but in order to add more meat to the script, I've needed to cannibalize parts of Season in order to further integrate Selim into this Part 1 of sorts.

Masada will have an easier screen equivalent, as will Snow in Sarajevo, the tentative third volume in the Illicit series. Not the end of the Balkan books and certainly not the end for many of those characters, but the end indeed for some.

So instead of taking the night off and being an old man, I am again at the grindstone with plans to go and get drunk in about twenty minutes.

LOVE my job!
