I miss you guys!
Also I realize that I kind of left you hanging, what with the Weekly Stuff which last happened, uh, a year ago. (In my defense, in that time: my boyfriend went to boot camp, I got engaged, I quit my job, I got married, I bought a car, I got a house, and I moved three thousand miles across the country).
So, exactly one year after the last questions were asked, here are the answers to the questions!
playwithfyr asked: Is it set on Mars? The answer was: Yes
playwithfyr asked: Is there a make out scene between every possible main-character pairing? The answer was: Yes
playwithfyr asked: Is the main character incapable of moving one or more limbs due to a tragic but hilarious accident somewhere in his murky, mysterious past? The answer was: Yes
playwithfyr asked: Is there a magic system based on a novelty item? The answer was: No
flamecurls asked: Are there elements of 1) film noir 2) disco 3) both? The answer was: Disco only
flamecurls asked: Is there a romantic storyline? The answer was: No
r_hayburn asked: Is the story in first or third person? The answer was: Third
r_hayburn asked: Is the main character a postman? The answer was: Yes
r_hayburn asked: Will there be penguins? The answer was: Yes
fadedbluejeans asked: Is the main character male or female? The answer was: Female
fadedbluejeans asked: Are there random dance sequences? The answer was: No
fadedbluejeans asked: Does the protagonist have a Secret Identity? The answer was: Yes
fadedbluejeans asked: Does the protagonist have a long-lost twin? The answer was: No
fadedbluejeans asked: Is there cake? The answer was: Yes
So! Our protagonist is a postwoman who has at least one paralyzed limb and a secret identity (but no long-lost twin). The story is set on Mars, told in third person, and involves elements of disco (however there are not random dance sequences). At some point, both cake and penguins feature. There is not a magic system based on a novelty item (however that does not rule out the possibility of a magic system based on something else). And, despite the fact that there are makeout scenes between every possible main character pairing, there is not a romantic storyline.
I'll begin:
Alicia Hayburn yanked hard at the gearshift with one hand, turning the wheel sharply left with the other, and sent the rolligon into a tight spiral. She was an old bus, and needed a special touch at the controls.
The rolligon curved to a stop right where Alicia wanted it: just a few yards from the cargo doors. This was a residential pressure, where the descendents of the first colonists lived. And Alicia had a delivery for one of them.
She checked her pressure suit's readouts, then swung from the cab to the cargo area, landing solidly on her left foot. For this more than anything else, she loved living in Mars; at one-third gee, her lame right leg was hardly an impediment. Emigrating had definitely been the right decision.
Alicia collected the package, keyed her entry code into the cargo doors, and waited for the outer doors to slide open. She stepped inside and felt her suit settle itself more comfortably on her body as the small space repressurized. Then the inner doors slid open, and Alicia walked into the Ares Pressure, the package under her arm.
