I should leave my house more

There was a peaceful protest going on tonight right outside Park Street station. No more war! welcome refugees! wake up to climate change! It was a lot of things. I was waiting there to meet my dad and he was running late, so I stood slightly behind one of the street maps and watched. Four transit police rode up, on motorcycles, blue lights flashing. They pulled up in a line, one close to the other, and stopped. It was tense for a moment, almost ominous.
But then, behind them, protesters gathered, circled, lifted signs, and lighted candles.
The policemen dismounted their motorcycles. They took a couple selfies with protesters. One let one of the protesters sit on his bike when she asked.
They formed a line and protected the protesters' freedom of speech. They provided a barrier, and a protective, detached calm. They weren't part of the protest, but their presense suggested a sense of legitimacy.
It was kind of amazing.

I took my dad to see a lecture about Thomas Wolfe at the Boston Athenaeum. I'm still a member there. It continues to be my main splurge other than Crossfit. I don't know if I'll renew next year because I just don't go enough. The lecture was good but way too long. Nobody should be allowed to speak at length for over 30 minutes at any given time unless it's a filibuster.
Everyone there was super old, super rich (looking), and dressed mad fancy. There were many bowties.

My dad wants to get us those Patriots jerseys they let you customize, the real nice throwback ones, and have "Scrooge" and "Marley" put on the backs, and then wear them to some dark bar in Newburyport around Christmastime, and sit there until someone notices and puts it on the internet.
