Cinema-Report #3 - Grudge Match

Jan 25, 2014 22:34

This was a fun movie which turned out more or less exactly as I had expected, although I had only known a single trailer of it.

Some people might say that "old" actors rather should retire than keep making films, especially the kind where you see them less than fully clothed and especially none where they have to be physically active. I might have been one of those people, but then I watched movies like R.E.D. and Expendables, which were great and worked with the age of the actors in a very good way.
I was never a big Sylvester Stallone fan, but when I recently saw him in Escape Plan I realized that he's still a very good and active actor, so I was rather interested in watching Grudge Match (although I am even less a Robert de Niro fan).
It's about old men who have a lot of life behind and still some good years in front of them. They also have a lot of unfinished business between them, which gets uncovered at a nice pace. And somehow I could actually find myself interested in the boxing sport and in the outcome of their fight, at least for the duration of the film.
Well, and for those who like to have something younger and prettier to look at, there is Jon Bernthal - best known probably for his role in Walking Dead, where I couldn't stand him.
