The day had done terribly slow for Haley James Scott to the point of exhaustion. Coming home, she let her bag drop to the floor next to the couch as she slid down on the pillow to rest her head. it hadn't been but two minutes until she was in a deep sleep, letting her mind wanter to a dream-like state.
The date was August 11th, 2007, just three months after graduation for Nathan and Haley. Haley was more than just showing through her pregnancy. She was just three weeks due to have her and Nathan's baby boy, Jordan Michael. She had let Nathan pick out the name. Haley walked in on a contemplative Nathan in their now bedroom/nursery. "Just three more weeks and we'll be parents. It's all come so soon." She walked up to him, speaking softly.
"Hey," Nathan said, standing up. "You should be sitting down," he whispered, helping her sit down. "You feeling okay and everything, Hales?"
just haley 23: Haley couldn't help but smile at his gestures. "I'm fine Nathan, we're fine" She spoke with such grace as she put her hands on her stomach. "What are you doing in here all by yourself?" She asked softly.
He shrugged, running a hand through his hair. "Just thinking," he told her.
His touched calmed her and she let out a calming sigh. "What about?" She asked, curiously.
"Everything, you, me, this baby, how our lives are going to change," he said softly.
"Yeah, I've been thinking alot about that also, but just think, our lives will change for the better. I mean, we're having a son" Haley smiled wide, letting her excitment shine through a little bit.
"Now the only question is if our son is going to be a musical genius or follow in his dad's footsteps and play basketball," Nathan said, grinning.
Haley laughed a little as she looked up at him, hating the feeling of being shorter than she already was, so she stood up. "The answer to that one is, our son, is going to fulfill his own dreams. Let him figure out as he grows what he loves. May it be a doctor or a lawyer, or maybe president, we'll be proud of him with whatever path he chooses" Haley spoke truthfully.
"We'll be proud, but his one grandfather won't," Nathan reminded her, wrapping his arms loosely around her as best he could.
"So be it. As long as knows his parents are proud, nothing else matters. Only Dan will be missing out on his grandchild's life." She hugged into him gently.
hotterscottbro: "Just let's not leave our son around Dan for too long, all right? I don't want him turning out like I did before I met you."
"Oh, believe me. Dan will have adult supervision when he visits our son" She said sternly, hating the thought of Dan around their child, but knew it wouldn't be right to shut him out completely.
Nathan groaned slightly, "Do we have to let him be near Jordan at all?"
Haley lifted her head up and looked at him. "Nathan, you know it would be wrong to shut Dan out of his life completely."
"Yeah, I know, but I just want everything to be.... perfect."
"So do I, but you know that nothing is ever perfect, sweetie" She gently lifted a hand to his cheek and stroked it.
"I know, I know, but for once, can't just one thing go... somewhat perfectly? Our first wedding was perfect, but our first marriage didn't, then our second wedding went perfectly only to have our honeymoon cancelled and financial problems... so can't everything for at least a year after our son's birth go perfectly?"
"I'm sure everything will be what we want it ot be after Jordan is born. It will seem perfect. Everything will get better" She said in a promising voice, little knowing what was going to happen in the near future.
Nathan nodded, kissing her forehead lightly.
Still sleeping, she smiled a litle as her dream was progressing. She tossed and turned a little bit as the dream started to continue later on.
August 28th was a beautiful night indeed. The perfect night for a birth. As Haley got up to use the bathroom, she felt a small pain come from her stomach and this pain was not a pain from a baby kicking from inside, it was more intense. She started to breath slowly. Without any hesitation, her water broke and she was on her way towards delivering her child. Haley's heart pumped faster as she opened the door and headed back towards the room. "Nathan... Nathan..." She called while breathing heavily.
Nathan jumped up out of bed, he'd been getting ready for Haley to deliver for the past month, partially without her knowledge. When he heard her voice though, most of that went out the window. He went over to Haley and put a hand lightly on her stomach comfortingly. "It's okay, I'm here, Haley, everything's okay, all right? I'm going to get your things and then we're going to get you to the hospital? Okay?"
Haley nodded, still doing her breathing she was taught in pregnancy class. She tried to laugh a little. "A .. little jumpy now aren't we?" She let out a smile, watching him hustle to get their things around.
Nathan smacked his head with his hand when he remembered he had had everything packed up in a suitcase for weeks. He got it out of the closet and then went over to Haley. "Just lean on me, all right?"
Haley put on a straight face and closed her eyes, nodding. "All right" She breathed wincing at the intensifying pain coming from within her.
Nathan helped her out to the car, whispering words of comfort in her ear. He put the suitcase in the trunk of the car after helping Haley into the car. Then he got in the driver's seat, buckled up, made sure Haley was all right, and then started driving to the hospital.
Clutching her stomach, her eyes were squinted, almost shut as a sharp pain ripped through her. She let out a yelp without really meaning to, but the pain was so much to bear.
Nathan pulled the car to a stop and looked back at Haley. "Are you okay?" he asked, concerned.
"Yeah, just.. don't stop.. keep going" She pushed out, gripping the seats.
"Okay, just tell me if you aren't and I'll call for an ambulance, Hales," he told her, starting to drive again.
"Don't worry... I'll be able to hold off..just drive. Speed if you have to" She almost sounded like she was begging. This baby was going to come, hospital or no hospital.
Nathan nodded, going at least fifteen miles over the speed limit. He got them to the hospital in one piece and practically rushed her into the building.
Haley tried her best to help Nathan get her into the hospital. The pains were incruciating and she almost felt the need to push. She held back as long as she needed to. Soon a doctor came and wheeled her into a wheelchair, down the hall to the maternity room. "How far apart are your pains?" He asked wheeling her. "Every other minute.." Haley pressed out.
Nathan held Haley's hand tightly as the doctor wheeled her down the hall. He was praying she and the baby would be all right with every fiber of his body.
Finally making it to the maternity room, the doctor quickly helped Haley up and gave her a gown to put on. Soon it was time for delivery. Haley was now up on the bed breathing harder now as the presure came to push. She would let out little yelps here and there from the pain but pressed on being strong.
Nathan was sitting by her bedside, still holding her hand. With his free hand he did everything he could to help her feel better. He had no idea what to say though, it wasn't even like his dad or anyone had given him some sort of advice so he had a clue as to what was going on.
"Okay Haley, It's time to push. Give it your all and push as hard as you can" The doctor directed, getting in position to recieved the unborn baby. Haley nodded a bit and started pushing, squeezing hard into Nathan's hand. She pushed for a bit then relaxed counting to five before pushing again. "Come on Haley you can do it" The doctor urged her.
"I'm right here, Haley," Nathan whispered, kissing her forehead "Don't forget, always and forever." He cupped her right hand in both of his own larger hands.
Hearing those words, she pushed again, tears sliding down her face from pushing so hard. Finally, the baby arrived into the hands of the doctor. The thing was, no sound was being made. Haley released all her tension and fell back against the pillow, trying to catch her breath after all that work. She waited for the baby's cry, but none came.
Nathan knew what that meant, but he didn't say anything about it to Haley, he just squeezed her hand comfortingly, kissing her forehead again.
The doctor slapped the baby on the rear to try to get it to cry but still nothing came. The nurses came in to work on the little newborn. Haley, not hearing a cry was getting worried. "What's going on? Why isn't he crying?" She questioned lifting her head a little bit towards the doctor. The doctor knew what had come of this pregnancy but had to come up with a slight story. "He is being taken to another room to be worked on. There was a slight complication" He responded and quickly left the room with the nurses and their baby.
Nathan stayed silent. He wanted to keep Haley calm without lying to her, without having to make up a story, but he didn't know how to do that.
"Complication.." She repeated, not understanding the word for a moment. She shook her head trying to comprehend it. It had been about 5 minutes since she had given birth and the nurses and doctor were trying their best to revive the baby but had no luck. Their child had passed while being brought into this world. The heart-wrenching moment was now upon the doctor as he entered the room with a look of sadness on his face. Haley looked up and something hit her that wasn't right. "Where's Jordan...where's our baby?" She asked squeezing Nathan's hand.
"I'm sorry, we did everything we could..." was all Nathan heard the doctor said. As soon as he heard that, he wrapped his arms comfortingly around Haley.
Haley sat there in shock, tears building up in her eyes. The doctor had left and she took that deep breath let it all out. Her hand was at ehr mouth as she broke down. She cried, she screamed, she felt like she was going to throw up. It hit her so hard, she found it hard to breath. Their baby boy that she had spent so long carrying, was dead. How could that be? What could of happend? All these thoughts running through her mind all at once.
Haley jolted from her sleep, screaming and crying at the intensity of her dream. Her face was beat red and she was shaking a bit as she sat up on the couch.
