Geeky scarves

The True Love found this: http://sternlab.org/2010/02/emission-spectra-scarves/ - the site of a woman who knits long scarves using the emission spectra of various elements as the pattern. So if you like silicon (and what geek doesn't?) you can go from this emission spectrum:

Oh, we're still working on our short lists! He is down to uranium, argon and iron, while I have added silicon, germanium and gold to the list. We should decide soon though so we will have them when the weather turns cooler.

Ahhhh - you look at silicon from a writer's perspective! You're absolutely right about the life-form thing. I have to admit that the first thing I thought of was actually semiconductor devices... and for me germanium = "early transistors" and gold = (aside from "pretty!") "the second least reactive metal and good for high-end electronics manufacturing". Remember the VXI mainframe I geekily told all of you about on Tuesday? It is manufactured with gold plated pins and sockets for the power supply connection because gold is a great conductor and it won't oxidise, which means greater reliability and longer operating life.

Um, I'll stop being geeky now. :D

No, no, I've been telling my mother - my *mother - to come along to a gogo class (just so she stops looking so bemused every time I go) for ages! She is a highly conservative woman, and barely co-ordinated. I take after her.

People of all ages do it, and it's not burlesque-y at all. :) I've been doing it for almost a year now. It's the highlight of my week!

Hah - well, we will see how co-ordinated I end up being! :D

You've been a bit of an inspiration there you know. Now that I've watched the CORRECT videos I'm really quite excited about the whole thing. Costume night anyone? (After I learn to dance, that is...)

Yes please! And don't worry, first class is a tiny bit intimidating for everyone, but it's great fun regardless.
