A bit o'updates...

May 18, 2009 16:31

-Starting in June, GC will update twice a week. This is to insure weekly updates while I'm moving, and build some buffer. Things will go back to normal in July. (Also, new page is up.)

-The FKMT anthology will see a release towards the end of summer. Again, I apologize about this. Because of the move and my *sarcasm*AMAZING*sarcasm* organizational skills, by the time I get settled into a new place, it will probably be at that time. As a friend suggested, there's the Kaiji movie in October, the new comic series at the end of this month, so lots of reasons to be excited over Fukumoto again! Once I get a date picked, I'll update again, of course.

-The JP GC site is tweaked a bit more. It doesn't look like complete garbage now, but dagnabit, I can't figure out how to get anything below the header centered in the middle of the browser.

For many a year, I've spent all day in front of the PC, half-working and half-daydreaming/websurfing. I become an irritable mess sometimes, especially if I feel like I haven't done as much work as I should. I do better if I disconnect the internet cable, but doesn't stop the dreaming off. I've recently complained to friends, and the good madam emlan pointed me to this article about scheduling and not burning out.

It's just about breaking up your day into drawing chunks and break chunks. I'm not entirely sure about it, but it does sound like it could work in theory. I'm giving it a shot for awhile.

--Like I work best in the morning and in the evening. So between 8~noon I draw. I take an hour break for lunch, work for another hour, then take a break for 5 hours, and then back at it around 7~til bedtime.

Already it's day three, and despite all the unexpected RL things keeping me away from the PC, this has been working well so far! I've been doing the same amount of work, but now I can do other things! For the last couple of nights, I have gone to bed not feeling irritated or worrying about that day's output. I feel like I can squeeze more time for gift drawing and actually play games that aren't on the DS again! (lol) I hope this will work consistently, I'm tired of being a slave to the PC.

I'm trying to refine how to portray light, shadow, and texture with inking. Poor GC is my forever testing-ground--whenever I become smitten with another person's work, I gotta test a technique out for myself on the page. Lately, I'm studying Paul Pope's gorgeous black and white work. (ttp://pulphope.blogspot.com/) Like this image (NSFW!!) I love how everything has a recognizable texture for a sweater, leather, a fluffy cushion. His stuff doesn't depend on tone or crosshatch so much if at all. I want to try to be more like that, but I always feel compelled to use tone/crosshatch anyway. It won't look balanced for me otherwise...makes me think I'm doing something wrong. :/ But I want to learn it, because I'd like my stuff to look at least more clean and clear.

I'm also in love with Nobuhiro Watsuki's stuff. (Rurouni Kenshin, Buso Renkin) Lots of bold black and white, but crosshatch is still used, and it doesn't look like a mess. A lot of the action scenes use very clean line bursts for shadow like here in the last panel.

I'm more than willing to hearing any comments if you see something that strikes I'm doing wrong or could do better/correctly. (・∀・)ノ
