Treadwell's is a traditional kind of place, as most of you know. The very atmosphere is steeped in a love of culture and belief systems, anthropology and history. Well, we aren't people to tell people to believe in fortunetelling but you have to admit that divinatory arts are part of Western esoteric tradition. And, none is more evocative than tarot cards. Those wood-cut images, archetypally potent, rich with symbols. The traditional art of tarot card-reading is involved, skilled and, well, hard: I have a great deal of respect for the people who have an aptitude for it and then who work it over the years of study and apprenticeship. It's quite a remarkable thing. Who studied the tarot? Well, more people than you might realise, including mystic PD Ouspensky, the British poet laureate Ted Hughes, and Nobel Laureate William Butler Yeats.
We at the shop have been talkng about it for a couple of months, and and decided we want to honour the tarot tradition by having a traditional reader at the shop several days each week. At last, now we are ready to announce it. Two readers to be with us, Diana Taylor and Suzanne Corbie: we invited them because they are classic tarot readers, and are outstanding at it. It was lucky to find them available. It's pretty exciting times, and a new departure for us.
It just remains to say that if this floats your boat, or you want to try it for the first time, just phone or email us to set it up an appointment. We also have gift vouchers - a perfect Yule present. A full page on our website now goes into it fully, as well
