8/21 thru 8/31
8/21 We slept well at Steve and Emily's apartment although we had to get used to the noises of the city. When we got up and around we walked to Noe Valley for eye appointments at Eye-Q, where Carmen works. Carmen helped us pick out cool new glasses after Dr. Kim Tom tested our eyes. We went to lunch with Carmen and then walked back to the house. I did some computing while Bonnie walked to the Salvation Army store. When she returned, she had some nice “finds” and was very excited. We hung around the apartment the rest of the day, read and relaxed.
8/22 Today we drove Steve's car out to the motor home to check on things and take some clothes back that we had washed at Steve and Emily's apartment. Later in the evening, we visited Dan and Carmen. They ordered Pauline's Pizza for supper and we sat around and talked and watched the Olympics on TV.
8/23 Carmen had to work today but Dan was home and we put up trim around their kitchen windows. We had to do our sawing outside so Bonnie kept tabs on our tools while we were working inside. The windows looked good when we got done. When Carmen got home, she helped us clean up and then all of us went to Toad's restaurant for supper.
8/24 Today we rode up to Sebastopol, California with Dan, Carmen, and Enzo to visit Lon, a co-worker of Dan's. Lon has several restored antique cars. He has several rare classics and they are all restored to pristine condition. Several of them have been used by the movie industry in various films. Each auto had a story. Lon and his friend, Jim, took us around and told us about each car. It was a fun day. We ate lunch at a diner that had outdoor seating so Enzo could sit with us. When we got back to San Francisco, we went to a vintage furniture store then walked to Crissy Field where we got a rare view of the Golden Gate Bridge without the fog. We were tired by the time we got back to the apartment after an interesting and busy day.
8/25 This morning Bonnie and I walked to the Red Cafe for breakfast. We picked up the apartment and put fresh sheets on the bed for when Steve and Emily arrive home tonight. We took our clothes and stuff back to the motor home with Steve's car, then drove the car back to the city and took the Bart/Bus back to the RV. We had a good time staying at Steve and Emily's apartment. Back at the RV, we saw some whales swim by and watched the sunset. The city noises were replaced with the sound of the ocean waves.
8/26 It was warm in Pacifica this morning and there was no fog. An unusual treat. The whales were here again today. We could see them blow water just before they surfaced and dove back underwater. Steve called in the afternoon and invited us for supper. He said their flight had been delayed and they didn't get in until 1am. We took the Bart/Bus in. Steve stuffed a chicken with good herbs and roasted it for supper. He also made a bread salad to go with it. It was very good. Then we had some of his home made bacon ice cream for desert. Different but good. They told us about their trip and it sounds like they had a great time. Later, Steve and Emily drove us back to the RV. It was good to see them again.
8/27 Today we stayed at the RV. It is warm with no fog again today. We went for a bike ride and ended up at the pier in Pacifica. After enjoying coffee at the Chit Chat cafe (a different one) we walked out on the pier and watched the fishermen. Some of them had small sharks that they had caught. Then we got to watch one haul in a shark. Later at the RV, we ate leftover roast chicken that Steve sent home with us. Then Bonnie washed a load of clothes and I worked on the log before we turned in.
8/28 Warm and clear in Pacifica again today. We had our propane tank filled this morning. We talked to some other campers that were docents at the Marin Headlands Lighthouse. The lady was from Alaska and she was a school teacher up there years ago when the big earthquake hit. She happened to be at the schoolhouse up on a hill when it hit and she watched the tsunami destroy the entire village below. In the afternoon we rode our bikes down to the pier again and got some coffee and lemon-blueberry cake at the Chit Chat cafe. Then we walked out on the pier again. This time a guy was catching crabs. The type of crabs they caught were out of season so they had to throw them back. Then we rode around Pacifica and checked out some new areas. We found a lot of interesting looking restaurants. Back at the RV we read and watched the ocean until bed time.
8/29 Today is our 38th anniversary. When we got up, Bonnie had a dozen roses and we exchanged cards. It has been a wonderful 38 years for both of us. We spent the day together by the ocean. Then we took the BART/Bus to the kids house and we all walked to the Noe Valley Pizza restaurant to celebrate our anniversary together. After an enjoyable time, Dan drove us back to the RV.
8/30 Today it was back to fog and 57 degrees in Pacifica when we got up. We did some cleaning and maintenance on the RV. The salt water fog takes its toll. Dan and Enzo came out in the afternoon to hang out while Carmen was at work. We walked down to the beach with Enzo and let him run for a while. Then Dan drove us into the city and we picked up Carmen at work. Bonnie's glasses were in so she was able to pick them up. They look real good on her and she likes them alot. My glasses were not in yet. After a short stop at Dan and Carmen's house, they took us to see “Wall-E” at the movies. Steve and Emily had already seen it and they were busy sorting through their cupboards to make room for their wedding gifts so they didn't go with us. We enjoyed the movie. Then we went to Mel's Drive-in on Lombard Street for hamburgs and malts. It was the restaurant that they used in the filming of American Graffiti movie. Then Dan and Carmen took a scenic route back to the RV to drop us off. We had a fun time.
8/31 Today we hung out in Pacifica. We rode our bikes down to the pier and had coffee and a muffin at the Chit Chat Cafe. It was quite windy and the waves were high. We walked out on the pier again. Then we walked down the beach in Pacifica. There were a lot of families on the pier and the beach on this holiday weekend. We sat and watched the ocean. Later we read, relaxed and caught up on the log before going to bed.
