8/13 thru 8/20
8/13 Bonnie took the bus and subway into town alone today and met up with Carmen for a “day of beauty” that Carmen planned for them. They went downtown to the Neiman Marcus store and both had a make up lesson. After lunch at a Thai restaurant, Carmen went to her eyebrow appointment. Then to top their day off, they both had pedicures that included a hot stone and oil foot and leg massage. Dan and Carmen drove Bonnie back to the RV and we all went to get pizza for supper. I had a productive day while Bonnie was gone. Washed the motor home, engine maintenance, caught up internet blog and pictures, read, and relaxed.
8/14 We sat watching the ocean in the morning. We were entertained by a guy in a hang glider and lots of pelicans flying around. Then we rode our bikes into Pacifica and went to a Thai/Malaysian restaurant for lunch. We decided it wasn't one of our favorite places to eat. Later we took the Bus/Bart to town. I went with the guys to Steve's bachelor party. We started at the Spork restaurant. Then the boys went to a bar to finish the party and I returned to the house. Bonnie had dinner with Carmen and shortly after I returned, Bonnie and I headed back on the Bart to catch the last Bus to Pacifica.
8/15 Early this morning, we walked up to Enterprise to pick up our rental car. It was a Ford Fusion. We then drove to the city. Bonnie went to a “Tea” at a darling little tea house (her words) in Noe Valley with Emily and the girls that are going to stand up with her. She really enjoyed it. Meanwhile, L.J. Guskey (a school friend of Dan's) and I drove down to Fry's (computer stuff) store at Palo Alto. When everyone got back to Steve's apartment, we met up with Emily's folks, Jerry and Jan Parkhust. Then we all drove up to the Aqua Hotel in Mill Valley for the wedding rehearsal. L.J came along and took pictures. After a successful rehearsal, we all drove over to the Buckeye Roadhouse, also in Mill Valley, where we had an excellent rehearsal dinner. We got back to the RV around 11pm.
8/16 The big day is here. We drove into Dan and Carmen's early. Bonnie and Carmen headed downtown. Carmen had a hair appointment and Bonnie and Carmen both had makeup sessions. When they got back to the house, we all headed for the Aqua Hotel. We had to get there early for pictures. Beverly and InSung (Bonnie's sister and brother-in-law) showed up soon after. We enjoyed talking to them. They are starting on an Alaska Cruise adventure after the wedding. The wedding started at 4pm and it was great. It took place in the Acqua Hotel courtyard in front of a small lake with hills in the background. The sun shone during the whole wedding and the fog was rolling in over top of the hills. Everyone mingled in the courtyard for a while after the ceremony and then moved inside for the reception. We partied with family and friends and enjoyed another good meal. Steve and Emily both have really great friends. Steve and Emily danced a ballroom dance that they had practiced for this occasion. It was a fun evening that everyone seemed to enjoy. It wound down around 10pm and we got back to the RV around 11pm.
8/17 After we ate breakfast, we drove to Ft. Funston beach where we met Dan, Carmen, L.J. and Enzo, their dog. Carmen's friend Jen and her dog, Bacon, were also there. Ft. Funston is a dog beach where dogs can run and play. There were a lot of trails. After we walked to the beach, they let Enzo loose and he ran up and down the beach and played with the other dogs. We took pictures and enjoyed the ocean. After Enzo got his exercise, we all drove to Dan and Carmen's house. Then Dan and I took Steve and Emily to the airport so they could leave on their honeymoon to Hawaii. Later in the evening, Dan, Carmen, L.J., Bonnie and I drove to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Dan and Carmen's old neighborhood. After a long day and a good meal, Bonnie and I drove the Ford back to our RV.
8/18 In the morning, we took the rental car back and turned it in. Then we walked to the Chit-Chat cafe for coffee and bagels. Later we rode our bikes to the grocery store for some things. The rest of the time we sat and watched the ocean and hung around the RV and rested.
8/19 Today we took the Bus/Bart into town to Steve and Emily's apartment. They said we could use the apartment and their car while they are on their honeymoon. I did a little cleaning in their utility room and Bonnie and I walked around the neighborhood. Dan stopped by to see us after work. Later we drove the car back to the RV and stayed there for the night (we didn't bring our luggage with us).
8/20 We drove Steve's BMW and headed south along the coast on highway 1. It was a beautiful hilly curvy drive along the ocean. We passed through Half Moon Bay and later turned inland to a small town called Pescadero. There we found a little country store where we got lunch, a turkey sandwich and a bag of Dirty Potato Chips (so named because they don't blanch the potatoes) to share. We ate outside at a picnic table. After we ate, we took a small winding road through the hills. There was very little traffic and only an occasional farm. The road eventually returned us to Highway 1. We headed north on Highway 1 and back to the RV park. We packed our personal things and clothes into the BMW and drove to Steve and Emily's apartment to take them up on their offer. Dan and Carmen invited us to their apartment for dinner. Dan made pork chops and they were real good. Then we retired to Steve and Emily's apartment for the night.
