Being an adult was hard. Sure, the perks of it were nice. Travis liked having his own flat and the privacy that came along with it. He liked that he could have stacked boxes of comic books in his office and body could say a word about it. It was nice to have a giant flat screen television in his living room with every game system available taking ( Read more... )

Ginny was glad she had managed to make it out of practice when she had. If they had run any more drills she would have been late to meet Travis. She checked to make sure her scarf was on and she had all the essentials, such as her wallet and wand, stuffed into her bag. Then with a pop she left the locker room only to pop up a minute later in a back alley.

She strolled out of the alley and headed off to meet Travis. She spotted him a few blocks down leaning against the side of the restaurant they were going to be eating at. She picked up her pace.

"You know that's bad for you right?" she asked with a frown when she reached him.

Travis had only made it half way through his cigarette when he heard Ginny's familiar voice. He turned to give her a sheepish smile, dropping the stog instantly.

"Caught red handed."

After he had properly stomped it out, Travis moved in for a hug. He turned his face properly so Ginny wouldn't get a wif of that tobacco smell. It was good see her, even if she still smelled like the locker room she'd just come from.

"I'm not even worth the time for a shower anymore?" he teased, fingers playing with the bottom of her hair. Though, it really didn't make much of a difference to him.

Ginny moved in to return Travis's hug. She was grateful that he moved his head so that she wasn't blasted with the smell of tobacco. She really wished he would quit but knew that nothing she did would have any effect. He was as bad as her brothers that way.

Ginny sighed happily into the hug. She hadn't seen Travis much recently, or really anybody other than her team mates. It was like her life had turned in to nothing but quidditch so it was nice to be able to eek out a few hours for some quality friend time.

"You're just lucky I made it here on time. Practice has been running later and later as we move more into the season." She nodded towards the door of the restaurant. "So would you like to go eat or stand around in the cold a bit longer?"

Travis squeezed her once more before pulling back. It had been strange when they first graduated, not seeing Ginny all the time. She had been a vital part of his years at Hogwarts since day one - they had gone from sharing only a common room to exchanging notes and all nighters during finals.

"Let's go in," he laughed, nodding towards the door. "You must be starving after all the work they make you do on the field."

Ginny grinned. "I'm pretty sure if left to my own devices I could eat an entire zebra right now," She said as she grabbed Travis's hand and led him into the restaurant.

The restaurant was crowded for a Monday but not oppressively so. It also had the lighting on the dim side but after hours outside Ginny didn't mind at all. She stepped up to the host stand. "Two please." The host nodded, grabbed some menus and lead them back to a table in the corner.

"You have no idea how much I am looking forward to a drink right now," Ginny said as she hung up her bag and coat before taking her seat.

Her hand was warm on Travis's cold fingers. It must have been all that working out she did - kept the blood flowing. He made a mental note to run more (later).

"It's Monday...in December. We both need a big drink," he agreed, holding out a chair for Ginny. Travis was a lot of things - and one of them was definitely a gentleman.

"Maybe two or five - we'll see where the evening takes us."

It was nice to see that Travis was still such a gentleman. Ginny couldn't remember the last time someone had held her chair for her and it was rather nice. The waitress came over to grab their drink order as Travis was settling into his chair.

"I'll have a vodka tonic with lime," Ginny told her before turning her attention to the menu. She was starved for sure.

"Whiskey sour for me," he told their server and, just as she turned, he added, "Potato skins too, please."

There was no use wasting time looking at the menu. They could always add to their appetizer order later but Travis knew that you didn't want to leave a pretty girl hungry.

Their server jotted everything down before heading off into the crowd.

"What else are you in the mood for today? Elephant isn't on the menu."

Ginny looked up from the menu with a laugh. "Well there goes my safari diet. I'll just have to settle for something more local."

She wasn't sure what she wanted but also knew it didn't matter much to her. "I'll probably grab an order of fish and chips. You?"

It had been a while since Ginny had eaten like this and she was planning to make the most of it. She didn't need to diet per say but keeping healthy was all part of the job. So friend foods tended to be a rare occasion for her these days.

"Lookit you, going all out for me," Travis teased, grinning. He couldn't imagine keeping a job that made him eat rabbit food to preform better. Really, he couldn't imagine doing what Ginny did at all. Her dedication was impressive.

The glanced back down at the menu, skimming it quickly. He just needed food.

"I think I'll go for a burger. Bacon and cheese," he decided, nodding.

"Anything for you," Ginny said with a playful wink. She pushed her menu to the side of the table to get it out of the way. Right then the waitress came back with their drinks. Ginny grabbed hers and held it up for a toast.

"To a fun night out with a great friend." She clinked her glass with Travis's before taking a generous gulp.

"The best of friends," he told her, returning her wink. Travis brought the glass his lips and tipped it back. It really was exactly what he needed.

"Tell me, what's been keeping you from me besides work? Anything interesting?"

Ginny propped her head in her hand while the other continued to hold her glass. "I wish there was more to tell but the Harpies have been taking up all my time. I don't mind at all. I love the team, but sometimes I miss not having more to my life than quidditch."

The part that was unspoken, but she knew Travis could hear it anyways, was that she missed how things had been with Harry. Well how things had been before their falling out. It had been long enough that Ginny probably should have gotten back on the dating bandwagon but she just couldn't bring herself to do it.

If the rumors she heard were true then Harry wasn't having that problem at all. Though when it came to Harry Potter it was really hard to trust the rumors.

Travis frowned, clearly disappointed. He had been hoping Ginny had started to reclaim her social life post-Harry. Instead she was shying away from so many opportunities.

"That's all?" he asked, playing with the mixing straw in his drink. "You need to take advantage! Have a wild weekend...you know, like I did." Travis couldn't keep the smug grin off his face when thinking back.
