I've just confirmed that in the computer switchover I've saved a lot of bookmarks from 2005 and before, which is about 40% bookmarks I'd gotten rid of since; and missed (and thus, lost) all the bookmarks from 2005 and current.
It may be possible to pull them with a system restore on the old laptop, or some other kind of digging, but I don't know if it's worth the effort. I do know, though, that if not and if I still want to back up other people's writing for my post-apocalyptic internetless reading pleasure, I've got one hell of a lot of web searching to do.
