Do you believe in magic? Do you ever stop, having felt something tug at your mind/heart/soul, and if you do, do you listen, or cast it from your attentions and move on? Do you hear voices familiar or strange, when no one is there to make them; sit in rooms with more people in them than there are bodies present to contain them; hear music without an apparent source; have questions answered by songs on the radio? Do you pray? Are they answered?
Simple probability declares that all these things will happen to all people at least once, and have some sort of rational explanation. But is the rational explanation the right one? IS there a right one, or, by deciding one way or another, do we decide our own reality?
I don't wonder if I'm crazy or if it's just me. I know the answers to both of those questions, and because life is the way it is, they both are qualified answers. I am crazy, but that's not why, and some things that involve me truly are just for me, like a handwritten card on your birthday or a phone call asking to pick up some cilantro.
I do wonder how to speak to others of this, and when. I do wonder how to share my life with someone, how to even start to, when such an important part of it does not have any easy way to be said in our modern culture. The issue hasn't really come up, but I think about it, knowing that one day it will.
Everyone has ghost stories, and they believe or they don't. But this is not quite a ghost story, and I believe it as simply and faithfully as I believe in my refrigerator. I depend on it, am accustomed to it, and occasionally take it for granted, but there are many things about it that I don't fully understand, despite getting the general idea, and I know what to do when it breaks- don't open the door. :3
