June 13, 2009

Lauren visited me last night on her layover from Japan to China. It was nice to catch  up with her about her travels around Japan. I really started to feel the effects of her leaving and how I feel like we became such good friends over the course of the year.  I just started to think about how it is amazing how some people come into your life.. Some make small differences; some, you don’t even remember their names or what their faces look like; but some challenge you and change your life in such profound  and abstract ways that you might not even notice until they (or you) have gone.  I have met a few V.I.P.s in Korea and Lauren is definitely one of them.

So, today I woke up feeling a little down. You know how it goes, one sad thought leads to another and pretty soon you find yourself cursing the stupid shampoo bottle that won’t squeeze out the last bit of shampoo that you can SEE teetering on the edge of the nozzle! ABSURD! I had to leave my place.. I couldn’t let these thoughts make my day miserable.

So, I grabbed my laptop and headed out, trying to suppress the urge to yell profanities to the old ladies pushing me out of their way and people leaving me just enough room on the sidewalk to squeeze through (while taking sidewalk shop product down with me). I went to Ewha Women’s University to check out the scenery.  It is a college town, so there are a lot of nice and unique places to go. I also had to reload my minutes on my cell phone, so I headed over to Itaewon. Usually when I am in Itaewon in the daytime, I get a delicious falafel pita from Pita Time, but today, I decided to go straight to Tom N Toms (my favorite coffee shop hang out due to free internet access, “iced tea peachy”, and chi tea lattes). I ran into my travel agent that sent us on our amazing trip to Boracay! We chatted a little and started talking about ‘The Secret’. He was telling me about Abraham Hicks.. now we all know that I am all about self improvement these days, so I was intrigued. The gist of it is positive mental attitude (those of you who know about my Muay Thai days.. the ‘PMA’ connection made me giggle to myself just a little). Long story short, I was really glad I ran into him, it lifted my spirits and put me in the PMA zone!

Later, I suited up for a night with the ladies. We went to this bar called ‘Vinyl’ in Hongdae. They serve your drinks in little vinyl bags that look like IV bags. It was a pretty tame night and I missed my recent "escapee" friend Lauren, but I had a great time out with the girls.

The rest of the week proves to be a great week. I have plans to start my schedule back up of going to the gym in the morning before school. Burrito night with the girls on Thursday. Pedicure, possible hair appt., and a father’s day surprise on Saturday. Sunday, Jess made plans for us to do a mild hike close to City Hall at this cool art café. I also have somewhat of a date on Sunday night. UGH.. dating.. not sure if I am up for it yet.. More on that to come, I’m sure… could be another great story on the long list of Ann’s dating mishaps! Lest we forget about my unpleasant nervous habit ?
