I was planning on making this post an all out rant on the anime that has, apparently, taken a bit of my soul :P
Really, I spent most of my day at work thinking up all the little imperfections of the series and how they drove me NUTS because they hung sooooo much time on certain things and then RUSHED like hell with the more important parts. How season 1 wasn't as 'amazing' as other fans said, but that I was still somehow attached enough to continue watching season 2...which was, in a sense, heartbreakingly beautiful <3.
So, I had about 3 hours worth of typing that I was pretty much going to do a word-by-word synopsis of everything-but, in the end, it was a terrific show. There's still plenty I would have changed (would it have really been so bad to finish it out with 2 more episodes like originally planned?!) but it's definitely worth sitting through both seasons.
In fact, I think it's saving grace was that not all the bishis fell in love with the Mary-Sue character. Some of them even admit that they were only protecting her because it was part of their orders to do so. Some didn't even take her opinion into account and moved on, which made it more entertaining to watch, rather than eye-rolling.
I also love how it's the original history of the Shinsengumi...but with oni mixed into the story (like the book 'Pride and Prejudice with Zombies). At least, once that had become clear to me, the story made more sense. I do wish they hadn't focused SO much on the history and gave a little more to the characters and their motivations, but they did become very lovable-even the ones that were meant to be evil.
And the ENDING...was rushed. I knew something was wrong when they suddenly had the last scene from the game about 10minutes before the end of the episode (and I was still expecting there to be 2 more until the kanji 終 showed up at the end 0.o) but the way they finished it, I'm still convinced that it's the happy ending. I think that was the point though: it was one of those things where the creators left it open for the watcher to interpret on their own...even if it didn't follow the ending I was expecting from the game ::grumble:: After all that had been done PERFECTLY to most of the scripts and character stories, they changed the ending?! (Could this be done with Harry Potter, too?? ::looks hopeful::)
Ok, next post will be about my job and Japan updates-I promise! I just really needed to do SOMETHING to get out all the emotions after this show!
Next week: KATANAGATARI ENDING :3 I don't care if I know what happens from reading the books, I'm SO EXCITED to finish the series and get all watery for the finale!!
