More than you've ever wanted to know about Richie

Richard 'Richie' Tozier is the Man of a Thousand Voices. Beginning in childhood, Richie (who almost certainly would be on Ritalin today) simply could not control the sarcastic comments, rude remarks, and attempts at imitations ("Voices") that came out of his mouth. As a kid, this resulted in beatings from bullies, punishment from authority figures, and hysterical laughter from his friends. As an adult, Richie used these skills to become a successful radio personality in the LA area.

A possibly relevant part of this summary of his life would be that Richie is a character in It, by Stephen King. And he grew up in a town called Derry, Maine. Oh, and did I mention that he spent a summer fighting a monstrous, child-murdering, creature known only as It? As a middle-schooler, with only six other kids for help? This would almost certainly have resulted in huge therapy bills--but, fortunately, as soon as Richie's family left town, shortly after that summer, he completely forgot about the whole thing. As one character describes it, it was amnesia so complete you don't even know you have it.

Unfortunately (again), Richie gets a phonecall 25 years later that really messes up his day. The monster, they thought they defeated? Yeah, not so dead. Could he please come back and help fight it? Kthks.

Obviously, they triumph--but the town is essentially destroyed. Two members of the group are dead (one killed himself rather than face the monster again, one was killed by It). Richie escapes with non-fatal injuries and a hell of a lot of fodder for nightmares.

So that's cannon, for Richie. How does he get here? Well, apparently disappearing for a few days and leaving unhappy people to cover for you isn't the best idea. Apparently, saying "Well, I made this promise when I was a kid," isn't a legitimate excuse. Oh, and having no real memory of why you left and what you did? Well, your bosses just might think you've gone crazy.
As a result, Richie "Records" Tozier, formerly successful DJ, is now Richie Tozier, slightly bitter high school teacher.

Richie's personality is, essentially, a class clown. In the book, he doesn't seem to make fun of the easy targets (he and his friends call themselves the "Losers Club"), but mainly targets the bullies. He may occasionally slip into a Voice (the Southern Gentelman, the Kinky Accountant, the Irish Cop), give you a nickname, or otherwise be slightly obnoxious, but it's all in good fun.

(OOC, meanwhile, let me know if Richie's nicknames/comments/etc bother you. He's obnoxious, but I'm not)
