Warp Theory

As I said in the previous post, I'm trying to cobble together a theoretical - or at the very least, a mathematical - basis for warp technology. This is in part an attempt to get inside my characters head, but mainly the utter incoherency of in-universe science pisses me off. Teach me to give a crap about the laws of physics (Have I mentioned how very, very impossible Trek-verse teleportation is?)

This is what sense I've managed to make of the Memory Alpha article on Warp:

-It is impossible to reach Warp 10
-The speed-warp factor correlation is...inconsistant at best
-The mathematical formula give for speed and warp factor doesn't make a blind bit of sense

I've managed to figure what the general form for the equation should be [y = 10x3/(x+1)3], which makes the graph asymptotic to 10 - if we take the y-axis to represent warp factor (hence wf), then this renders it mathematically impossible to each Warp 10. It also means x=0 where y=0, so there is no velocity at Warp 0.

Success! Based on MA's speed-warp factor table provided, I've achieved a working equation:

Where Wf is warp factor, v is velocity, and kc is the Cochrane Constant (A constant I had to jam in there to make the maths work. Value = 83.4751276148534. Named for Zefram Cochrane, inventor of the warp drive)
