[Otonoha Vol. 199] My Stay Home

May 24, 2020 12:40

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Arashi has made attempts to engage the fans while they're staying at home. Welcome to Part 2 of Sho's Stay Home chronicles.

Hello.

It’s me.

Sorry for causing all of you to worry the other day.

I’m still in tip top condition.

Although part of the state of emergency has been called off… I’ve been continuing to stay home.

How is everyone doing?

(I think many of you might own the DVD…) In addition to the concert footage, did you enjoy the remote picture book story time and Waku Waku Gakkou?

For the remote picture book story time, “The Adventures of Son Goku” was awesome, wasn’t it?
You could call it “The Adventures of Aiba-kun”!

For everyone who participated in Waku Waku Gakkou, thank you so much.

Lesson #3 contains even more fulfilling content, so please look forward to it.
We’re also holding a live stream on Sunday, so it would be great if you could watch that as well.

Now.

Let me talk about my recent experience with Stay Home.

※ TV is interesting

Highlights and “Best Of” selections which have been airing these days.

Naturally.
For the cast and crew who are responsible for delivering those programs, a part of it could be painful for them, but as a viewer…

I encountered programs which I hadn’t been able to watch when it aired.

“Oh, so that’s what it’s about!”
“Oh, so this person came to the show!”

I’ve made many discoveries like that.

That’s why TV is interesting for me now.

Perhaps I’ve been watching too much TV?

I’ve reached the stage where I’m able to hum along to the melody of commercials which are airing together with the shows.
(I wonder if anyone out there feels the same way…?)

※ I’ve been doing radio calisthenics
Like I mentioned on News Zero recently, I’ve been performing Radio Exercise No. 1 together with my friends via video calls.
There are days when I couldn’t participate, but it has become part of my daily routine.

(This whole thing started when I worried about whether the children of my friend, who’s a medical professional, felt lonely.)

And then!
I would stretch my neck and move into Radio Exercise No. 2.

…up till this point, it’s actually my warm-up exercise.

After that, I would do push-ups, sit-ups, and other types of training.

At this rate, by the time it’s summer, I’ll have a…

Perfect body!!*
[T/N: This English catchphrase was made famous in Japan by Kane Kosugi, a martial artist and actor who’s known for his ripped body.]

※ Enter The Newcomer

For the past 2 months, day after day, I’ve looked at him face to face.

That’s right.

It’s my shredder.

People often ask me this question.

“Why do you have so many documents to shred?”

I’ve always thought, “I’ll throw this away one day~” and accumulated tons of mail. Work documents, etc. There’s loads of it.

Having faced my shredder day after day…

… it finally died. __| ̄|O

Sorrow~*
[T/N: Sho writes it as “Kaaanashimi”,  possibly referring to the first line of the chorus from Truth.]

It was a compact shredder which I had bought a few years ago.

So I took the opportunity to replace my shredder.

Oh man…

I’ve hardly ever shopped online till now, but it’s pretty amazing.

The newcomer, which is slightly bigger, leveled up and can even shred CDs!

It arrived in just a few days.

How should I put it, it’s the speed?

On the other hand! It’s sad that I can’t buy things from the store.

“Ah! So there are stuff like this too!”

Because you get to encounter new things.

I look forward to the day when I can go shopping in person again.

That’s about it, I guess~

And I’ve just been cleaning and packing.

When I have less things to tidy up, I get into this weird spiral of feeling sad.

Even though I’m tidying things up, I get into this weird spiral of having more cleaning tools.

That’s how I’ve been spending my days recently.
Now.

The day before yesterday.
When I happened to look at my organizer, the following words caught my eye.

15 May - “Kokuritsu”
16 May - “Kokuritsu”

Even though it was just postponed, it’s still frustrating. It’s such a shame.

Then the next thing which caught my eye was the weather forecast.

On the 16th…

… it’s supposed to rain!!!!!
Again??!!!!!

“How many times are we going to make it rain!?” I thought as I burst out in laughter.
(It’s actually pretty tough when it starts raining.)

I have a favorite lyric from Love so sweet : Reborn.

It’s the line just before the second chorus.*

[T/N: The line that Sho was referring to is:
Now the storms passed us by
We’ve become a rainbow]

When I first listened to it, I thought the lyrics were wonderful, and miraculously I got to sing that line.
(Congratulations on getting selected.)

Please, do give it a listen.

Sho’s Diary will also be airing on Netflix at the end of this month.

I hope all the various content adds some flair to your time at home!

I hope you enjoy it!
