Would Transgender exist in a more fluid society?

Oct 08, 2007 18:54

A lesbian friend today said that men need to stand up as women did, for their rights to expand the limitations society imposes in terms of appearance and behaviour., in short the binary system. As a result of the female stance women today enjoy far greater freedom of expression than men in most cultures.

I'm honestly not sure if I was born in the wrong body, but I was definitely born in the wrong society, where a straight jacket is imposed on male expression...ok i would prefer a female body...but I'd probably accept a male one if  there wasn't such enormous restrictions on expression.

My question is , do you you feel that society plays a role in creating Transgender? Would it still be a significant phenomenon if the binary system did not exist?.

There are apparently less female to male transsexuals, is this due to the greater freedom of expression women hold?. A woman in Irish society may dress as a man and it attracts little attention, since women fought for these freedoms in the past century.

Just interested in hearing others opinions.
