TOR has announced the replacement for Robert Jordan. This is a man hand-picked by his widow, a rising star of TOR. Or at least that's what seems to be said.
The press release is
here.
I've never heard of the guy. One thing I do like, however, is that he's a friend of
Howard Taylor, the author of one of my favorite webcomics. Howard says this guy is good, and I've grown to trust his opinion; at least as much as one CAN trust the opinion of someone who's only contact you've had is drawings on the internet and an occasional photograph.
Two things I noticed in the press release. One, he got picked up unagented from the slush pile. That's good stuff. Two, one of his four books was a young adult book called "Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians", a book that I saw this very weekend while we were out...and though "damn, that's a very cool cheesy title." So, I have high hopes.
They're claiming he'll have the manuscript done by December of next year, with publication set sometime fall 2009. I'm crossing my fingers.
