Catching Up. [closed]

As per their agreement, Hoshi took off for the Media Library. Admittedly, she wanted to research a few things herself, but the main reason for her venture was to see her friend again after what happened on the Oryan planet. Once there, she strolled through the rows while keeping her eyes peeled for the Doctor ( Read more... )

"I'm over here!" The Doctor called from quite a bit further off. He'd come to take a look at anything Molly might appreciate when she wasn't drooling on things or being a generally too well-behaved baby but given the size of the library, he'd found himself just browsing out of personal interest on top of that.

It might be a bit before he actually got back to Molly.

The Doctor pulled out one of the thin slats, turning it over in his hands as he waited for Hoshi to find her way over to him.

"I hear you!" Hoshi announced, taking off for a brisk run towards the sound of his voice. Once she caught sight of him, she waved in a friendly wave.

"There you are! It's been some time, hasn't it?" she asked, having a few discs in her own arms. They were mostly recipes, but there were other subjects scattered about in the pile. "How've you been?"

The Doctor waved in return.

"Good! Great, even! Glad to see everything's settled down after the Clock," he added, sounding exactly like he wished it wasn't quite so peaceful. Peaceful-ish -- after all, Rory had gotten violent with that bald man (who was it? Lex? Smart human, almost as bald at Megamind from what the Doctor remembered) and he was starting to think maybe River Song was rubbing off on him.

The Doctor takes in Hoshi. She looked more or less the same as the last time he'd seen her, good mood, good health, friendly for a human.

"I definitely hear you there. I was worried for a few of my friends who were affected by the Clock," stated the beyblader. Then, there was helping Billy out with the play to appease his Time Dragon... At least there was a moment to stop, breathe, and recuperate after all the insanity that went on.

"What all have you been up to since the last time we've spoke, and oh! Has anyone from your world woken up yet?" Hoshi asked, always interested in learning more about her friends and their loved ones.

Worried about time’s infection - yeah, he could understand her worry. But it’d worked out, they’d sorted things with the Time Dragons and…well, he wouldn’t say it’d gone completely according to plan (never talking about Analog and her rusty winks. Ever.). One of those close enough sorts of things. The Doctor tucked one of the disks into the crook of his arm as he turned to face Hoshi completely.

“Me? Checking up on the humans - they tend to need it,” he added, dropping his voice in a whisper that wasn’t much of a whisper to begin with, as if a human could be eavesdropping. “Having a look at the TARDIS. I’ve found the Ponds again. Amy and Rory? Lovely couple. Rory’s a bit normal.”

He added, as if that was something worth mentioning. And then there was River and she was in a class all in her own, to the point he couldn’t even say with certainty if she was human or how far in his future she’d come from.

The Doctor's sentence of 'checking up on the humans' garnered a small curious look from her. Then again, perhaps he came from a world where there were more than just humans roaming about on Earth. (The explanation seemed plausible enough in her head, at least!)

"How has the TARDIS been since the last time I've been there? A little bit cleaner now, I'd hope?" she asked, dropping her own voice just in case, too. Though, she didn't really see a need for it, to be honest. "And, oh! I know you've mentioned Rory before, but is Amy that ginger haired girl you were talking about a few months ago on the omnicomms?" Another question with her hoping she didn't ask too many questions already.

"Normal's always good," she added in, noticing that there tended to be a lack of normalcy aboard Stacy already.

The Doctor flicked a glance at her, not losing his stride.

“Oh, she’s good! All clean! Still sorting through the rooms, but you know how it is.” Or she would if she was familiar with pocket dimensions and Gallifreyan engineering. The Doctor nodded. “That’s Amy. Very ginger, chronic dislike of proper trousers. Scottish,” he added, as if that was all you needed to describe Amy. It was like Rory and normal or Roman or ex-plastic.

As for “normal” as being something to aim for, well. Doctor pulled a face at that. Normal was fun and all if you wanted to dabble in that sort of thing, but it was all so very human, wasn’t it? He supposed Hoshi would know, being human and all, and he thought she’d get along with Rory. Rory seemed to be doing surprisingly well on Stacy, actually - he’d been expecting more of Rory making those faces about meat ships and even more aliens than you could shake a stick at and instead he’d dove right in and settled himself into Medical.

Well, while Hoshi wasn't too well versed in what the Doctor was getting at, she had a feeling and went along with it. And, well, she was familiar with the concept of pocket dimensions. After all, where did she decide to put the DoubleDriver most of the time? But, there was a time and a place for that, and this wasn't the time itself.

"I'd love to meet her and Rory in person one day. Do you know if they'd be free for a little meet and greet?" Well, there was nothing wrong with meeting new people. After all, Hoshi has been doing a lot of it ever since she got out of GLaDOS and she had found herself enjoying the new friends she made, on top of the old friends she had from before the fact.

As for normal, she felt like she had to rescind her words, if the face that the Doctor made was any indication. "Ah, well, what I meant is that it's good to have some form of normalcy around. Too much of it's gonna be rather boring," she explained further, hoping that it was enough to make up for her little error ( ... )

The Doctor paused to think. "Well, I don't normally make it a habit to babysit my friends, but I'm sure they must have free time somewhere. They must've gotten the kissing out of the way by now, surely!"

Come to think of it, he hadn't really had much time to actually talk to either Rory or Amy himself. Things kept coming up, Time Dragons needed talking to, River being River, and in the end, that was how it would be: the humans would go off and so would he. Well, it wasn't like he was entirely alone. There was the TARDIS and him and the old girl always did seem to need him banging about her engines what with all the hiccups she'd had recently. The Doctor tilted his head at Hoshi as she did a neat verbal backpedal.

"I suppose normal could make the exciting and fun stuff even more fun," the Doctor said, still not sounding quite sold on it. After all, this was the man who told Amy Pond he liked to skip all the boring days. Thankfully Stacy was hardly boring and as far as he was concerned, there were far worse places to be kidnapped to ( ... )

"Oh, of course! Sorry," Hoshi quickly responded while a nervous laughter elicited out of her, perhaps out of embarrassment or even at the mention of kissing. Well, it was a natural thing -- kissing, so it was nothing to get so worked up about ( ... )

The Doctor blinked, looking mildly confused at her question.

"Loads of things. You know how thinking is: very full of thoughts and all sorts of stuff." Evasive, as always. He hadn't been one for letting his friends and companions get too close to what he thought and it was really just old habit to deflect. "So. Here we are. Did you need something?"

He squinted at her. If she needed something, this was a bit roundabout, even by his standards, and he was trying to figure out if this was a human thing. Humans. Sometimes you could guess what they were getting at -- although really, they were much more straight forward as babies. He hadn't ever met a baby who wasn't straight forward. He supposed the older a human got, the more they forgot about being blunt. Herd mentality, maybe, not there was anything wrong with herds. He'd met some rather polite ones himself, even if holding a conversation with one was an affair in itself. Since humans were so...social, they were all rather keen on trying to get along and not making ripples by being ( ... )

"Right... Okay!" Hoshi was still rather confused, but instead of lingering over something as idle curiosity, she decided to drop the subject for now. After all, if there was something he wanted to share with her, he would. She was content with that.

Oh, that was right! She almost forgot about her original purpose for meeting the Doctor at the media library. While most of her questions and other riff-raff was taken care of by Philip and her other friends, she did come upon the realization that the last time she met the Doctor face to face was when she was helping him clean out the TARDIS. That was months ago -- far too long in order to keep up with friends, in her opinion anyways. So, while this meeting was all nice and well, actually hanging out with the Doctor would probably ease up on any stray guilt she felt about not keeping up with this friendship like she did with her others that she made here on Stacy ( ... )

"Do something together," the Doctor repeated. That was a bit redundant, since even just sharing the same space or bumping into someone in the corridors technically fell into that "doing something together" bubble, didn't it? "I suppose we could do them all at once, you know."

It sounded much more entertaining that way than being boring and picking only one: an "or" option, really. Although a sleepover...well, he thought he knew what a sleepover was, just judging by the fairly obvious name. Loads of sleep, presumably, but given he wasn't human, he thought Hoshi or the other humans would probably be doing most of the sleeping. Maybe he could have a recreational nap in the meantime. Not quite his idea of fun, but it could be different.

At first, Hoshi had a little apprehension rise up at him repeating her 'do something together' phrase. Wasn't it fairly common to use these days? However, the same apprehension faded away when he gave confirmation. "Awesome!"

The gears were turning in her head of what they could do, such as what she could make for it, as well as what she could bring to it, or what she could do to prepare for it. The anticipation was running through her body and it was probably evident with how wide her grin was and the light in those red eyes of her's. "Oh, what do you like to eat and drink? I can make stuff and bring stuff that I have over for us to do--"

It was clear that she was probably going to talk a mile a minute for a short while due to the ideas that were running through her mind.

The Doctor thought about it. "Not much of a fan of Stacy's sludge. Do you have fish fingers? They're rubbish without custard, you need the custard. Or!" He held up a finger. "Berries and croutons."

As for drinking, well. Not much of a drinker of that alcoholic stuff people like Eva were so fond of, especially with his taste buds. He supposed a human might not mind but for those of them in the galaxy with, you know, an actual sense of taste compared to a human, Earth drinks were rather disgusting. He thought about it some more and shrugged.

Hoshi thought about his request, folding her arms over her chest. There was a lot of food at the Masaki house, so they probably had fish fingers, or the ingredients to make them. As far as the custard was concerned, she could probably make it, too. "I can make both!" She'd have to find a recipe somewhere in the Media Library, too.

At his shrug, she pursed her lips together and thought about the drinks at the Masaki home. Well, there was the fruit smoothies... "Have you had a smoothie?"
