All work and no play... turns Terry into Bruce

Apr 05, 2010 19:46

Back home, Terry McGinnis had had the reputation of being that guy that was never around. And when he was around, he was usually only half-awake, if even that. It mostly came from being Batman - spending most of the night patrolling left the young man with little time to sleep besides in class. And after school, he'd have to leave for 'work' to ( Read more... )

Terry was a pretty light sleeper, so the strange sounds woke him up pretty easily. He sat up and stretched, then looked around for the source of the noises. He glanced past the blue... thing... and then did a double take. The noises were coming from it. But he wasn't really sure what it was.

"Um... hi?"

You'd think a guy from a time period when people could mix their DNA with animals and other weird, crazy stuff was something one saw one a daily basis would be used to the oddities roaming around the ship. You'd be wrong. Terry stared at the blue thing, especially once it started talking. It was just so... weird.

"Uh... no, I won't hurt you," he said haltingly.

"Uh... yeah, I'm a human," Terry said, arching an eyebrow. This felt rather... surreal. Was this blue thing an animal? An alien? Not that it really mattered, there were other non-humans running around on the ship. This one was just a lot weirder, somehow.

"What do ya mean, 'afraid'?"

Terry snorted to keep from laughing. Weird as this thing was, it was kind of cute.

"Don't worry, I'm not afraid of you. It takes a lot more to scare me. What -- er, who are you, anyways?"

This time, Terry couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah, I'm pretty tough."

He would have liked an explanation as to what exactly Renne was, but considering how often he had to explain himself? He could understand not wanting to go into detail. "Well, I'm Terry," he replied, "and I'm also Batman." Might as well just get that out of the way.

"Hey, stop that, that tickles," he said, laughing as Renne snuffled him. And sounding like the teenager he was for the first time in a long while.

"It's Batman, not Man-Bat. And I'm not part animal... well, at least not right now. I was for a little while about a year ago, but that was really weird. I just... dress up kind of like a bat to stop people from doing bad things."

"Well, that's the plan," Terry said, thinking. It didn't always work, but it was something he felt he needed to do. If there hadn't been fifty years between Batmen, Power's corruption may have been found out, and his dad might have lived. He wanted to try and keep anyone else from going through the pain he felt.

"So what about you? Whadda you do?"
