The Toy That Would Not Die [Open, Silliness]

May 20, 2011 22:20

"Wee-tah-kah-loo-loo..."

Howard was too young to catch the Furby craze in 1999, but he sure knows about them from Youtube videos of them being used in prank calls. What he didn't realize was that the off-switch was either impossible to find or non-existent. So it was with mild curiosity and, as is turns out, crushing naivete that he picked it up ( Read more... )

Sakura strolls into Med Bay like she owns the place.

She doesn't, but it's nice to sometimes pretend there's a place you're comfortable enough with to stroll in like you own it, even if you've never made it to the opposite side. Yet.

One of these days...

Howard's around, a sight she's both used to and almost happy with by now, though he looks like he's searching for something. "Lose something?"

Howard's too distracted to even comment on Sakura's confident swagger, although he certainly would have tried to knock her down a peg if he were in the right headspace to notice.

"There's a goddamn Furby in here and I have to kill it. Unless you can find the off-switch. Please find the off-switch." He brandishes a Nerf gun at the Furby, laying on its side and cooing in the middle of the room, blinking dolefully. "Do you have a hammer?"

"I don't generally carry a hammer on me, no." Forestalling an awkward conversation in favor of another one! Sakura has no idea what a furby is, let alone how to find an off-switch for this mysterious beast. She does, however, soon know what one looks like.

"Wait. That thing?" Moving over to the terrible creature in question, she bites back a laugh. "Is this out of your toy box too?" She watches it blink.

"Don't let your guard down. That thing right there is the single most annoying creation mankind ever came up with. Also, it's creepy," he whines, knowing exactly how silly he sounds. "Yeah, it came out of the toy box."

The Furby blinks slowly at Sakura. Its impact from the throw seems to have knocked one of its eyes loose, so it's now wall-eyed.

Miranda hadn't noticed Howard, but she had noticed the odd little toy sitting on the floor, abandoned. "Oh, aren't you cute?" she said, smiling as she picked up the Furby.

"U-nye-loo-lay-doo?" the Furby said, it's ears moving, and Miranda jumped. "Oh...you talk!" she said, looking at it in surprise. Was they toy alive? Allen had told her about the Innocence that had animated a doll, once...

"Um. Hello?" she said to it, hesitant. Would it understand her? She hadn't been able to understand what it has said.

Howard doesn't return with a hammer, but he does have a fire extinguisher and a candle lighter. Hopefully he can make good by the phrase 'kill it with fire'. Except there's that other woman who works in the Med Bay holding it now, and he probably shouldn't try to set her on fire in an attempt to destroy a children's toy.

"What are you doing? Don't touch it, it just encourages it!" He moves to grab the Furby from her.

Miranda drew back, pulling the Furby away from Howard's grasp and closer to her chest. "What are you doing?" she said, staring at the items Howard was holding. What was he going to do with those?

"Trying to kill a Furby. Duh," he says, crossing his arms because he's unwilling to try and snatch it away from her chest. "Don't worry, I brought an extinguisher. I know what I'm doing."

Of course, if he really knew what he was doing, he wouldn't have turned the Furby on in the first place.

The Furby continues to babble its Furbish nonsense at Miranda.

"....what on Earth?" Clark said, poking his head into medbay after very easily hearing the cries of the toy.

Howard's left the room again to seek some other method of Furby-destruction, so the poor Furby's all alone on the floor...covered in fire extinguisher fluid. One of its eyes is missing. So is a big patch of fur on its back and a chunk of its right ear.

"I love you," Furby says to Clark. "Furby hungry. Furby hungry. Me hungry."

Clark stared. And stared some more. "...who the heck thought it was a good idea to turn you on?"

"Someone who really should know better," Howard says as he re-enters, lugging a bucket of water with him. "In my defense, I didn't know that shaking it would wake it up. I just wanted to see if it rattled."

Well, Cassie was supposed to be in here as a patient. But usually Cassie was 16 years old and not 11.

So instead she had decided it was a brilliant idea to sneak into Med bay and steal her medical records- assuming she could find them. How hard could it be?

But her plans were postponed when she ran across Howard.

"Seriously? Your worst enemy is a furby?" She giggled.

"No, my worst enemy is a genderswapping murder zombie tied up in my basement. This is just my most annoying enemy," Howard says, glaring daggers at the now-even-uglier Furby on the floor. In the last twenty minutes it's been thrown, hammered, set on fire, covered in extinguisher fluid and dunked in water. It is one unpleasant-looking toy.

It is, however, still twitching its ragged little ears and clicking its beaks - the bills of which no longer line up.

Howard turns to Cassie - man, it's weird to see her looking so normal and young. "Do you know how to turn these things off?"

"I don't know where the off button is but if you can't find it why not just take out the batteries?" Cassie went over to pick up said toy. "Aw, you really went after the little guy. Hold still." She tried to get its beaks to line up again but she wasn't as strong as she used to be. "Poor little Furby."

"Tried that. Couldn't find them. I think it's got a molten core of Satan instead of batteries." He pulls a face when she goes over and picks it up. "Don't be nice to it. That thing's evil."

Hana had only come to the Med Bay because he figured he'd be ending up here sooner or later so he'd best get at least somewhat familiar with the place.

He recognized the other teen as someone who'd yelled at him before but considering the amount of people who got into arguments with Hana that didn't seem like too much of a defining feature to him. He doesn't even think he ever caught the guys name during their little spat either.

Oh well, no time for that now, there's some sort of possessed fuzzball in the room.

"What is that thing doing here?"

"Ruining my life," Howard says bluntly, eyes focused on the now-mangled Furby on the floor, though he does register that Hana is that loud-mouth he got in argument with earlier.

"U-nye-noh-lah. U-nye-noh-lah. For my pleasure, cherry blossom," the clearly possessed Furby burbles. Its beak is now half-missing, making every word all the more upsetting. Its remaining eye rolls around in its head.

"Dude, did you do that to it? How many times have you thrown it?" Hana asked, more in a disbelieving tone than anything. Exactly how many hits had this demon dustbunny creature taken?

He took some steps closer to get a better look, pulling a face of disgusted horror as the broken mechanics continued to move.

"Dude, I set it on fire and it didn't do any good." Don't get too close, Hana, it reeks of burned plastic and HATE. "I drowned it and it didn't die."

The Furby chooses this moment to let out a high-pitched shriek.
