Th medbay was the first place she had headed off too, although she was hating it already. She had been here several hours ago after being attacked by big and ugly the first time, and needed a pick me up the second. This time she was a little better, but she still had a few ugly wounds and her head was thumping like mad. Not that any of this

"Did you come here to watch over Sasa--" he stopped, glancing down to see an extremely familiar wig on the table before looking back at Mindy's face. "...Hit Girl?"

"It's me. And yes, I'm gonna watch over Sasami until I know for sure that she's better. She's been through a lot."
Reply
"So did KAIN happen to you, too? You look like you were hit by a truck." Okay, a bit of an exaggeration, but Mindy looked like she was in need of first aid more than he was.

She did look pretty bad though. "Yeah well, I got some healing to do. After the first fight I wanted a rematch. Third time I just wanted to get Sasami the hell out of there."
Reply
"He was quite a monster. I'm glad you were all right."
He looked surprised at her words. "You went up against him three times? Is Medical paying you extra to give their new staff a workout?"
Reply
"You got that right. Dude was scary, and single minded as all hell."
She laughed. "Give me credit, the first time was an accident. He came to ME, and when I didn't answer what he was talking about he laid into me. The second time was for revenge, but I had backup then. Third time was to get Sasami out. She...was kinda one of the ones I married on that stupid mission, so I felt responsible."

Zouichi paused for a moment, then added, "That was the first time I saw the Captain in action."
"'One of the ones' you married? In other words, you married more than one person?" He blinked, glancing at her once more. "...how old were you again? I didn't know they allowed minors."

She nodded. "Same here. Didn't even know he could fight, to be honest. I thought he was just another useless politician, like the council pretty much is."
"Two people: Negi Springfield and Sasami. Considering the both of them are underage, so much for that rule. I did it mostly to get on the planet though, for the mission. But then they did that ritual to prove I was worthy and...I dunno. I felt differently about it. I wanted to male sure nothing happened to them after that."

He laughed. "I didn't think someone could be the captain of the ship and be 'just another useless politician', but I was surprised to see how hands-on he was about the situation. But what's this about the Council?"
"Yes, I think I understand. It was certainly an... interesting experience. Although I probably wouldn't have volunteered for it on my own, I did get the chance to meet some of the crew."

She shrugged. "I'm just gong about what I see. I saw the council at work during the mission. It was a whole lot of placating toward the aliens, no matter how vague they were. Reminded me why I was a vigilante in the first place, to be honest."
She shrugged. "It was an experience, one I didn't really expect. At least marrying wasn't so bad, I know Negi and Sasami, and that way I at least had someone to tease during the mission."
Reply
"Ah, so you'd prefer more of a direct approach." Zouichi crossed his arms, leaning against a nearby wall. "The Council did seem very concerned with not offending them in any way. On the other hand, those aliens apparently had enough firepower to blast this ship out of the sky."
"So, now that you're off-planet, I take it you're divorced?"
Reply
She nodded. "I'm a girl of action, always have been. I don't like to sit around or relax too long, it makes people lazy. The Council has its purpose, but honestly, I'm not concerned with them really. They're more for people that need to think we have order."
She squinted. "I don't think so, even if I tried. I have a feeling I'm going to be stuck with those two."
Reply
"I'm honestly more concerned about their support for the Yeerk lifeforms aboard the ship," Zouichi said. "If what I've been hearing about them is true. Respecting the rights of your fellow sentient beings is one thing, but..." he trailed off, thinking. "At any rate, I rarely hear much out of them."
"So you're going to remain married to them?"
Reply
She grimaced. She had heard a little about the Yeerk thing, but was cautious about getting involved there. So long as these Yeerk things didn't go around making a mess of the ship, she could really care less. Hell, some people probably could use a bit of brainwashing, right? Might make them less lazy.
She shrugged. "Why not? I'm twelve, he's ten and Sasami's a potential kid. Doubt it'll change much, except us having the others' back."

"I see." How curious; he'd been under the impression that humans attached more importance to the idea of marriage. It was, apparently, not a universal sentiment.

He didn't get it: she understood, more than Negi or Sasami, what a promise was. Even marriage, as it was, was important, and that was why she looked to the two of them. She knew the things men and women did was beyond that, but she knew she could at least offer them protection.
