Silent Hill, the movie

So… I watched Silent Hill. It was scary but not as scary as I thought it would be. That’s still not quite right. It’s more disgusting than scary. This is filled with spoilers as I try to point out some stuff that was changed from the game’s story.

First off, I like Silent Hill’s plot but I’m still too chicken to play the game. You can’t blame me. I don’t need to play a game I don’t enjoy the gameplay of right?

Here begins my big blurb of stuff as I recall them.
1) The bleeding nurse in the movie and from what my parents say, her eyes are bulging out as well, she is the nurse called Lisa in the game. They put the bleeding scene of the nurse in but they don’t even explain why that is significant. As I read from a plot guide, it’s a sign that shows Alessa’s not in control of ‘her’ Silent Hill anymore (the dark and creepy one). This is only true for the game since the plot is changed for the movie.

2) The symbol on the floors and around Silent Hill has turned to a symbol used for the faith of the followers of Christabella when in the game was supposedly The Mark of Samael which signifies Alessa’s progression towards her goal.

3) Dahlia who is more sinister of the lot in the game is transformed to the better person between Dahlia and Christabella. There was no Christabella in the game in the first place. Christabella is the embodiment of the bad in Dahlia of the game. The game Dahlia is the leader of the cult. The burning of Alessa was so that they can tap into her power, which is Samael’s.

4) The biggest difference as everyone knows is that Sharon is actually Cheryl in the game. The main character that players assume the role of is Harry Mason, the father and not Rose de Silva, the mother.

5) Since Lisa does not have a role in the movie, Kauffman was wiped off as well. Therefore, White Claudia, the addictive drug and the Aglaophotis that was used to separate Alessa from Samael was not extracted from game to movie.

6) Almost forgot this one. The church became the place Alessa could not enter in the movie to exact her revenge. The movie extracted this idea from the game but the game’s story is different. The Flauros is a device given to Harry in the game by Dahlia. This device must be close to Alessa to work and because Alessa shut out Dahlia, Dahlia can’t bring the Flauros close to Alessa. So she needs someone to be a ‘pawn’ to do just that. That someone is Harry.

7) In the game, Harry’s wife is dead. Dahlia dies in the Bad, Bad+, Good, Good+ ending, killed by Samael or Samael in Alessa’s form. Depending on what ending you get, Harry will escape Silent Hill (Bad+, Good, Good+). Harry dies if you get the Bad ending. If you get the Good or Good+ ending, Alessa hands a baby to Harry. The movie shows that Rose is dead.

8) Very interesting how the movie had three versions of Alessa, the burned one, the dark one, and the one who is Sharon. The game only had two Alessa’s, the Alessa who looks about 14 and is the one who survived the burns and the 7 yr old Cheryl/Alessa. They merge back to their ‘complete’ form and become the third Alessa which is referred to as Mother Alessa as said in a plot guide. The movie gives this quote: “In the eyes of a child, the mother is god.” said by Rose. The game gives this quote: “My daughter will be the mother of a god!” said by Dahlia.

I’ve read from reviews and such that it’s the settings in the movie that resemble the game’s. That I’ll never know.

Do I recommend you to see the movie? I don’t exactly know. It’s not good or bad. It sure is confusing though. It’s confusing if you didn’t read up some stuff about it first. Why can’t they speak more clearly? =S

(I might add more when I think of more. I do like the story of the game Silent Hill)
