What a weekend it has been. I had conference for Engineering. And for once, the ladies out-numbered the guys! yay!!! We had over 250 attendees and there were only about 20 males. hehehe... After days of running around, I'm so glad it's all done and over with.
All the UPs and DOWNs with the Conference:
So much was included. First, there were Disney Tours on Friday. Then Friday night, we went to Epcot for a Welcome Reception and to see the fireworks. Oops...one bad thing that night, a girl slipped on her last step off the stairs, and was moaning and groaning for about 15 minutes. And I just happened to be there to see the fall. She did get up and is ok now. We got back around 11 pm and I stayed up till 3 am to watch the World's Figure Skating Championship (that I had recorded while I was gone)...I thought I liked the Olympics better.
Saturday...was just tooooo early!!! 7:15 am for Breakfast. Then Workshops!!! And to complicate things for the people...there were THREE big events going on that same morning, all on campus. Engineering Conference, Open House Orientation, and Dora:the explorer. People kept asking, where is Dora? And we're like: who? You know, the spanish speaking girl. "totally confused". Lunch was terrible. Nothing worse. Lunch was at noon, and the kitchen didn't bring the food till 12:05. Not bad yet. Then, I was in charge of the Vegetarian Meals. And for the first time, I learned what gluten-free meant. A lady approached me, and said that she was gluten-free, meaning she couldn't eat bread-no bread, no pasta, no tofu...etc. Guess what lunch was? SANDWICHES!!! She was really upset with us. And she's the director of all the regional conferences....ouch! We got ourselves in trouble. Then, another person came and said that she cannot eat tomato or anything that touches tomato. I haven't ate yet, the food just arrived 2 minutes ago, and I'm like...what am I supposed to do? Open the wrappings to find out if there is tomato in it? Good thing, we found out that there was no tomato, but there was eggplant, which is as bad for her. Sooo...she got mad. Then someone else couldn't eat cheese. And more and more complaints. Man, these people...I was about to just leave and let them buy their own lunches in the Student Union. How frustrating. So, that was LUNCH. Later that day, we had career fair. And then our Multi-Cultural Show. It was a dinner banquet...it was so nice. Despite the boring speaker, our performers did an awesome job!!! They were very entertaining. No food complaints, because we had a chat with the kitchen to MAKE SURE that everyone's dietary needs were taken care of.
Sunday morning: we went to the Orlando Science Center for a farewell breakfast, an award ceremony, and some entertainment from impromtu performers. The only thing that went wrong that day was...we reserved 4 charter buses, but only about 50 people rode the buses, the other 3 were empty. Many people had to head back to their schools (a lot of people flew here), and a lot of people decided to drive instead of riding the bus.
Overall, it was definitely a worthwhile event. So much work was put in this Conference. I paid like $35 and look at everything that was covered. That's because we're an engineering group, we have so many sponsors = more money, a lot of donations, it was fun to dress up professionally, and we had a lot of help from all the volunteers. YAY!!! We're done with Conference!
