Explanation
I just want to explain why I bought the DVD of Garden State, as Grant mercilessly called me out in my post about hating Zach Braff, may his name be purged from my memory.
First of all, I didn't really like the movie very much. Grant and Peter can themselves attest to this; I saw it with them. However, I was captivated by Natalie Portman. I obtained a copy of Closer for the same reason, though I liked Closer.
Secondly, I was under the impression that if I gave it another chance a few months after seeing it in theaters, my disappointment might fade and I might be able to appreciate it on its own merits.
But most importantly, GIRLS OFTEN LIKE THIS MOVIE. I like girls. This is definitely one of those movies you watch with a girl because, invariably, you're cooler than Zach Braff and will benefit from the comparison, and yet, there's all this like "The Shins will change your life," yelling into a massive, fictitious canyon shit that provides the right atmosphere.
But now that I've just divulged my secret, I need to get rid of this movie. Any takers?
