Smelly Books

So I'm a bibliophile. Not really a surprise. For example, I accidentally ordered some books for a class I dropped over the summer because I didn't pay attention to who sent me that e-mail. The logical thing to do would be to return them, especially since I'm desperate for money. But I love books. They're my books now. I can't give them up.

I also love to smell books. I like the smell of new books. and I like the smell of old books. Today in class, my professor brought in a collected volume of the Spectator that was published in 1753. I was a little embarrassed, and I tried to be sneaky about it, but I did smell it. That was the oldest book I've ever smelt. It definitely had a different odor than the other old books I've smelt, which are usually only 60 or 70 years old tops. But I didn't get a really good whiff because, ya know, I was in a class and I didn't want to make a scene.
