Oh, if I had the coin I probably would, but I most certainly wont. I've never once bought a console on launch day because they're always so damn expensive :(
Wasn't the price-point for the PS2 just as high (or almost) when it first came out? Or mebbe it's just my "non-gamer's" lack of respect for just how important these things are... ;o)
The gamers in my family will end up with all the new systems, eventually, too... I'm -- personally, and not *just* from a gaming point of view -- liking the PS3 because of the whole "Blu-Ray" thing and the backwards compatibility to the games we already friggin' own... ;o)
I'm liking that they're staying with the backwards compatibility, but I hope they fix the memory card annoyinances. It burns me that I have to use a PS1 card to save games when using the PS2. You'd think they would have put something in the OS to "fake" a PS1 card when saving to a PS2 card :P
I'll still end up getting a PS3, but until it drops to at least 300 CDN I'll be sticking with my PS2.
No, I really don't think they are. Maybe more of a "yeah, nintendo's right that we need to push the boundaries a bit, so lets try doing it ourselves, but safely".
After reading and watching all 3 keynotes, I'm actully most excited about the Xbox one. Seemed to have a heck of a lot more new information than Sony or Nintendo's.
I dunno, the games that are coming out for the 360 are pretty damn fine lookin', and I do think they've nailed how to get a console online correctly. But until the price is dropped it'll be a Wii first.
