Sony's Keynote

So.

Sony had their big E3 press junket thingie last night, and man are the people underwhelmed.

My opinion? We all knew it was going to be ungodly expensive, and it is. We all knew it was going have some damn pretty graphics, and it does. A Final Fantasy demo was a given, so really there wern't all that many surprises at the junket. What did surprise me was the addition of motion sensing into the controller.

Tonnes of people are calling foul on this seemingly last minute addition, which at first seems to directly compete with Nintendo's Wii, but honestly I don't think it does. The Wii is going to have a much higher resolution for detecting movement in 3D space and have also said over and over that they really don't consider Sony or Microsoft to be competitors because they're going for a much cheaper price point. I think Sony's dual shock lawsuit hit them hard and they (mostly) wanted to replace the dual shock with something else.

I'll end up getting a PS3 one day, but for about 4 years when its under $300 CDN. Or I win a lottery, whichever comes first. Until then I'll be happy with my PS2 and more than likely a Wii.

[UPDATE]: Listening to the Nintendo Keynote stream over at 1up right now and the tunes are gooood!
