At the very least I'll get a new HD... but that's the last thing I want. The powerbooks been trouble from day one and I'm gonna fight for a full replacement.

Actually, I priced things out and it wasn't much more, spec for spec, than a PC laptop. The myth about macs being horrendously expensive is just that... myth. They cost a bit more than a pc, on average, but not that much more.

Try using a third-party tool to check the drive's S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics. That may turn up something juicy.

Makes no nevermind to me... it's making funny noises... ergo the drive is sick... ergo Apple is going to take care of it wether they like it or not. I didn't get the extended warranty fer nothing :P

Ahh, ok, good. I didn't know if you needed _that_ much proof or not.

I thank sweet jeebus every day I opted for the 3-year warranty for my laptop. It got me a free, brand new one three years later :D
