yesterday we had tickets to see the Cirque du Soleil show Toruk. We needed to head into Providence early because they were having their
pvd festival.
we got there about an hour before our dinner reservation at Gracie's and walked around. Jeff & I were dressed for dinner & a show, so we didn't quite blend into the shorts & flip-flops. It was beautiful; belly dancers and singers, spoken word, world music, tons of food, flea market tables. there was a stand where you could write a letter to your former self in neon on a black board, and one with a bulletin board where you could post your "pvd stories" on colored index cards. The local restaurants and bars were offering specials, and we found that Ellie's, a bakery we've always wanted to try, was open. (they have only daytime hours, and we're usually in providence at night.)
ellie's had the croque monsieur sandwich that i fell in love with in paris (it's basically a ham & cheese panini but i can't begin to tell you how wonderful it is) and also a croquet madame, which is that sandwich with a fried egg.
we ended up getting macarons to take home, we'll have them tonight.
i asked jeff if i should write a story about being overdressed and macarons and he said no, but that's okay, as i have a place for that here.
dinner was amazing (i always always always order fish out...fish or pasta. i think it's because i'm picky about how i like to eat beef...basically grilled filet is it, and i have chicken at home all the tiime so that kind of seems like a waste. (i have pasta at home all the time too but i'm obsessed with it, so...)
the cirque show was fabulous; it is astonishing how much choreography goes into it. on the way out someone was handing out dunkin donuts gift cards. jeff gave me his because he's not that that into dunkins (is anyone as into dunkin as i am?) and i just checked the balance. $10 on each. SCORE!!!!
