Have you ever voted by MAIL? I've never even heard of this! What a wonderful convenience -- I love it! Ian and I registered to vote when we got our Colorado driver's licenses the first week we were here. Although I've been thinking about changing my party registration, I went with Democrat since, A) I hadn't recently thought about it, 2) All the other choices seemed ludicrous to me like the Gun Owners' Party, and the We Like To Step On Baby Seals So Don't Even Think About It, Trace party, and a few others, and, Thirdly) I felt pressure to answer quickly!
Today, Ian and I got actual mail-in ballots for the Colorado Democratic primary coming up. We just fill in the Scantron, affix postage, and mail it in -- wow! I love living in the modern era. This rules.
Anyway, being the good little bunny that I am, I see that there are two choices for United States Senator -- Andrew Romanoff, and Michael F. Bennet. I visited each candidate's website, and checked out where he stands on various issues. I even made notes -- You'd be so proud of me! In the end, my choice was a very simple one, however. Both candidates said all the nice rhetoric about improving schools, and spontaneously producing jobs out of thin air, and being nice to the trees and water supply and whatnot. I coulda flipped a coin, really. The deciding factor? Romanov has an Equality section listed in the Issues section, where he says very politely that he's pro-choice (or "pro privacy," in such matters, which is good enough for me), and he's about some gay lovin'! Well, okay, no... he didn't actually say that he's about some gay lovin', more's the pity, but he is in favor of gay marriage, and openly gay service in the military = WINNAR. I searched and searched, but couldn't find any mention of these issues on Bennet's website. That tells me that maybe he's opposed to these things, but he's certainly too chickenshit to come right out and tell me where he really stands. And that, sir, is totally unacceptable in a politician. At least have the decency to come up with some cleverly worded ambiguity that means nothing, but sounds warm and friendly!
Alas, every other person is running unopposed in the party, so U.S. Senator was the only choice that required any thought in the primary.
But... I get to vote by mail!! Progress is awesome!

P.S. I love Colorado!
