Back at work on this rainy but warm Wednesday in Atlanta. I certainly don't miss the terrible freezing rain and continual sense of doom of New England Novembers! The occasional rainy day is a treat

People are up in arms at our company regarding bonuses as well. Everyone used to get bonuses. There are multiple variations on stories floating around about what actually happened, but apparently because one of the groups didn't meet goal last year, no one got a bonus. It was an all or nothing kind of thing. I'm good with that, and have worked at other companies where everyone had to meet goal in order for bonuses to be paid out. But now they're saying that support staff won't be eligible anymore - only the Operations people (and of course execs).
However, our President did the same thing that your guy did - announced in a Town Hall meeting that we're on goal for bonuses this year and that they're looking to be higher than normal, blah blah blah. Let me note, there is not a single operations employee here in the corporate office where the Town Hall meetings are held.
Come to think of it - I'm now wondering if all those non-english speaking folks who work in the laundry facilities (we're a healthcare linen provider) get bonuses? They're part of operations, but I highly doubt they get a whopping bonus at the end of the fiscal year!
Bonuses = Bullshit in my opinion. The only time I have ever received a bonus was when it was guaranteed company-wide, and the receptionist got the same percentage bonus as the highest execs. Every other time, the company has always managed to weasel out of paying them to the lowest folks on the totem pole at least.
Whenever I interview for a job that talks about their bonus program, I ignore it. Salary and solid benefits are what counts in my estimation.
