Around here, by now there are some frozen birds in the freezer cases, but there won't be fresh turkeys in the meat department for at least a few more days. The local natural meat shop, Newark Valley Angus, is taking orders for fresh and frozen turkeys and geese for the holidays. Mmmm. :-)

I'm not even being picky about fresh vs. frozen here -- I mean there were the usual 3 or 4 giant turkeys they seem to have year-round, but that was IT! Where are the sprawling aisles of turkey splendor that signify the single largest grocery shopping holiday of the year?

I guess I've never really paid that much attention, but should all the turkeys be out over a week before they're to be eaten?

It's kinda like Christmas tree lots. Just because you buy your tree on December 20th doesn't mean it hasn't been there since December 1st!
