Over the past few weeks we've seen Congress condemning the MoveOn Petraeus add, then Democrats trying to condemn Rush Limbaugh's phony-soldiers remark, followed by at least one Senator floating the idea of actually commending Limbaugh. I didn't keep track of how all of this vital legislation fared.
Is it just me, or is anyone else seriously creep-ed out by the idea of Congress putting it's stamp of approval or disapproval on various acts of free speech? At the very least it seems like a colossal waste of time. They should really get back to the important business of funding the insane war, stripping citizens of their civil liberties, and granting retroactive immunity to the Executive branch and related corporations for any and all criminal acts committed in the name of Keeping Us Safe.
