Magic to me has a flow, a colour, a sound, a texture. It varies from person to person, place to place, but there's always a "feel" of some sort. This is an excerpt from a letter I wrote to a practicing magician friend about the type of magic she is so far displaying, either directly or as a suggestion / indication or potential.
[...] She is also very clearly oriented towards charm. OK, so all babies are to some degree, but this one is definitely An Extrovert, possibly Destined For The Stage. She certainly has the vocal projection levels down pat :-) Also some ability to "broadcast" the charm, I'm noticing.
She is now also awake and alert enough that I'm getting the first sense of her own magic. She definitely has it. A little to the sparkly side, what I've seen so far, though it's not super obvious yet and all babies might be a bit that way inclined anyway, I don't know. I haven't got more than a few glimpses, but it's definitely there. Flavour still to be largely determined. I may also only be able to see that part of it that is similar to mine, I don't know - she may have more of a type I don't sense well. I look forward to seeing what influence her father's flow has had, if any.
That kind of sums it up, really. Her father, my beloved W, is a separate case re magic: if we were going by the four-elements model, I'd say that his affinities were all water, but that he thinks almost exclusively like a fire magician (and yes, there's as much and as little conflict there as that implies). That's why I am interested to see what aspects of his nature and magic the Schmetterling inherits. If she gets a water affinity from him and an air or earth affinity from me, and my air method of working, that will be one range of possibilities. Or she may have her own completely different set of skills and approaches (because, you know, parents can't possibly be doing anything right). I may at times miss having her grandfather around for both her and I to bounce ideas off.
