First work assignment, First Hawaii, First Date. A story of 15 'Firsts'

"On the way back during the first date. Just holding hands made my heart beat faster"
Ten years ago, what was the elementary school student Yamashita thinking about and what was his daily life like? At the chosen location of Shitamachi, his smile while he played innocently with the youngsters he met. he shone brightly as if he's returned to his younger days.

My first love was someone who fell down very often, she was cute.
Yamashita who celebrated his 10 years in the jimusho on Sept 6. So this month with the theme 'First', we will be asking about memories of his younger days. Work, love, holiday...... A whole lot of YamaP's fresh and wonderful memories!

First Audition
Unsure if he's accepted....?
My audition at the Jimusho was about 10 years ago, when I was 11. I sent in the application and they contacted me when I'd already forgotten about it. (laughs) Because I lived in Chiba, my parents sent me to the city station. Ah! I remember~, I couldn't dance at all!! At that time I didn't know anything about things like steps. Well I'm able to dance now (laughs) Later on I received a phonecall and from then I started my activities but come to think of it I wasn't told "You're accepted"!! (laughs)

First Work Assignment
I was a teenager with zero self-awareness
After I entered the Jimusho it was always mainly just dancing, it felt like I was dancing for club activities. So, I totally can't remember what was my first work assignment!! But I think the first must be dancing behind my senpais. I did danced behind KinKi and V6 most of the time. Now that I think of it, I was really a clueless teen back then. (laughs)

First Concert
I danced behind KinKi
My first concert was when I danced behind KinKi in Yokohama Arena."There's so many people here! Wow~", I was thinking. But frankly, I don't really remember!! (laughs) Well, I've just realised this, it seems I'm not good at talking about the past. I like talking about the future. So I can only say that no matter if it's concert, now or in the past, I was completely absorbed in them.

First Recording
I don't really remember~
My first experience with recording was when I released the CD. But I like singing at the concert better so I don't really remember~

First Drama
'IWGP' is special ne
My first drama was 'IWGP'. Eh? You're saying it's the NHK 'Shounen tachi'? Well then that's it. (laughs) But, 'IWGP' was a really great drama. Sakaguchi-san, Tsumabuki-san and Kubozuka-san who acted in it are all leading actors now. But~, I was still a junior high school student so I just remembering my lines took all I had. 'Kabachitare!' was the same too but it's an adult drama and I couldn't really understand. When I watch it now "Ah, so that's what it meant" and I understand it.

First Line
I like "Kon!"
I don't remember my first line~ The lines that left the deepest impression are "daccha", "maido ari" and "Kon!". Weeelll, I'm not good at talking about the past. (laughs)

First Solo Lead
I'm glad I could play the bad guy
I was nervous about the lead role in 'Kurosagi'. I've still a long way to go as an actor but "I won't lose out to the script!!", I decided to take on the challenge with such a spirit. Also, I'm glad that I could play the bad guy for my first lead role. Well, getting to play the righteous popular guy right away, I don't really like that (laughs)

First Trip Overseas
My first trip overseas - the taste of bibimbap
My first trip overseas was probably when I went to Korea when I was small. Adding lots of kochujan [Note: some kinda chili sauce] to the bibimbap, the rice turning all red it was really spicy but really delicious!!

First Hawaii
Love at first sight when I was in grade 6 in elementary school
I went to Hawaii for work when I was in grade 6 for 'Hachi ji da J', and completed a 20km marathon. I remember that I was totally exhausted. But I've a very vivid impression that the sea was really beautiful. Now that I think of it, that was my love at first sight with Hawaii.

First Surfing
Standing on the first try and I was hooked
First, I tried it about twice in Hawaii, but I couldn't really ride the waves and wasn't interested. But last year when I tried in Japan, I could stand on the first try. When I could ride the waves it became interesting all of a sudden. A stylist-san whom I look up to as my teacher in life taught me.

First Love
Missed my chance to confess......Ahh!!
When I was in first grade I liked this girl who was quite clumsy. That girl seemed to fall down a lot and it was cute. But at that time, I didn't know what was confessing about at all, so I just watched from behind. After that, when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade I moved away, so in the end I couldn't confess~ Since that time, I learned "You have to say it when it comes to you"! A-re? I was supposed to be bad at talking about the past...... If it's about girls then I can remember it very clearly ne (laughs)

First Date
Held hands on the way home
When I was in 5th or 6th grade both of us took the train and went to watch a movie together. I went to her apartment to fetch her and on the way back we held hands as we walked!! Aahh~ Sweet memories. Just holding hands made my heart beat faster...... At that time I said, 'Let's walk home?' and we alighted one stop before our station and walked home. I was really precocious!! The movie we watched...... I don't remember. That's not the point. That's not the time to watch the movie! (laughs)

First Present
Gave my mom a handkerchief from supermarket
The first present I gave in my life was when I was in elementary school, to my mother I think. I remember I bought a handkerchief on her birthday from the second storey of the local supermarket. Yellow flower patterned one that cost about 500 yen I think. I would feel like giving presents to the person that I like. It can't be expressed with money but I want to see the happy faces of the people I like, so I give presents. I think even when I'm shopping, "Ah, it'll suit [him/her]" I tend to think more of the people I like than myself.

First Lost Love
I cried twice in my life
Up till now I think I've cried twice for girls. First time was when I cried in front of (Akanishi) Jin. And then one more time. Somethings you just can't help it when you think about it. If I don't like the girl when we break up I won't cry, but I'll cry when I still like the girl. But I think that was also a good experience.

First Fan Letter
It was an intense experience
I remember this! Three days after I got into the jimusho, I was really happy. That girl was a high school student and she was waiting for me to come out of the tv station. I went home quickly and wrote her a reply. Somehow, it was an intense experience. That fact that she noticed me. Because of these feelings, even now I do write replies some~~time. So I think it's quite good if you become my fan (laughs)

My latest news!
I want to study overseas and learn English~!!
Lately, I really feel like going overseas for language study. To places where they speak English. Talking to Golf and Mike, and talking to my friends overseas on the phone, I've improved tremendously in simple conversations within these 2 to 3 months, so I want to learn more. By the way, my dreams are in English (laughs)

YamaP in Tsukishima Interview Diary
Bringing along his 4 'brothers' YamaP-aniki takes stroll in Tsukishima
For the location shoot this time, we went to the town famous for Monja-yaki, Tsukishima. When YamaP arrived, elementary school boys started to gather around! Looking from afar at first. But attracted by YamaP soft aura they approached quietly, and the distance is drawn closer.....!! "Daite Senorita?" he was asked, "Yes, yes that's me!" said YamaP. When YamaP dropped into a sweet shop, the children went in too. Then, they came out of the shop with sweets in their hands that YamaP gave them as a treat...... YamaP walking in Tsukishima, now we see the aniki bringing along his brothers! Talking to eldery couples at the park, calling out to the the child who fell down "Ganbare! Don't cry!". After the location shoot, patting the children's shoulders and heads, YamaP said goodbye reluctantly. A day where we saw a very dependable, gentle and relaxed YamaP.
