Recently, I read a certain magazine with a feature story titled "In the Mysterious Sea". It was, well, interesting. Let me point out now that I'll be repeating what I've read in that magazine. There was a lot of information in that feature story . Things like how water that can accomodate both freshwater and seawater fish was developed, that they have succeeded in breeding tuna etc. The former is known as "Optimal Environment Water" that can allow both freshwater and seawater fish to live together. The circumstances that led to its development was really impressive. The researcher was thinking that if all living things on earth in that era came from the sea, then the freshwater fish and seawater fish should have existed in the same sea. From there, he calculated the osmostic pressure of both types of fish in order to create water from that era when living organisms were formed, and it seems like he succeeded after applying a very low concentration of electrolyte to freshwater. It's might be a little hard to understand but anyway, its saying that keeping freshwater fish and sea water fish in the same water tank was something like a dream. It's still not for sale yet but once it's sold in the market, I might be able to easily fulfil my dream of keeping jellyfish at home. Fufufu.
In that feature story, there was also a report on deep sea fish. Hmm, why is it so? That guys like deep sea fish, I'm one of them too. Because there are still many mysteries about the deep sea, maybe we're just intrigued by that. I like it but I'm still not considered as someone who is familiar with it so that's why I had little knowledge about deep sea fish. But somehow, I knew about this creature called 'Oniankou'. (Note: aka Linophryne arborifera) This creature is also very interesting. When the male and female are mating, the male will become a parasite on the female, gradually merging with the female and devoting itself to reproduction. In other words, the male will leave behind it's reproductive organs and become a part of the female. Hmm. What an ultimate love. In fact, it's funny. Like, you don't have to go that far... Also, have you ever wondered why deep sea fishes look scary? Sunlight does not reach the sea at such depths, and therefore to these deep sea fishes that live in the dark, their eyes are not necessary and so it degenerated. Also, it seems that in order to make sure that they can catch the prey that they rarely comes by, their mouth grew bigger and bigger. In order to make full use of any chance they get. Leaving aside the jibe, "if it's that bad, then don't go diving into such depths", deep sea fishes are really unique. All of them have to struggle to survive.
You might find me naggy but the deep sea has a lot of mysteries. Nah, not just the deep sea but the sea itself is full of mysteries. It takes up 70% of Earth's surface but there are still too many things that we don't know about it. I'm sure the mysteries were there in the past. But, what would we think about it if we were to find out everything about the sea someday? When we find all about the clear blue sea, will we think of it as a gorgeous spring or will we just see the deep sea as a black swamp cut off from the rest? Our impression of the the sea will probably be changed greatly, depending on how its grandeur and horror match up against each other. Fantasy or mystery. That's just like how the universe is like. When you think about it like this, maybe it's better if we don't find out too much. I think it'd probably be totally different from the sea that existed during our lifetime by then.
Back to what I was saying earlier, I was talking to my friend passionately about the charm of deep sea fish and this friend said this to me jokingly, "If you like deep sea fish so much then just go be a deep sea fish." But, that's just something impossible for me. Well, that's because...
