This place...is far too strange.

[woah wait!]

What do you mean "alchemy"?! That's not possible!

"Not possible"? Well, maybe not where you're from, but in Amestris, alchemy has been the main source of progress for the past couple centuries. Actually, I happen to be a professional alchemist working for my country's military, so I know a lot about the science, if you're interested.

oh boy, get ready for the tl;dr alchemyisppl October 24 2008, 04:24:49 UTC
[wahaha, someone to bore enlighten with alchemy!]

Really? Well, all right then, where to start...

[lost in thought for a moment]Alchemy is the science of reconstructing one object into something new. It works in three steps: analysis, deconstruction, and recomposition. In the first step, the step of analysis, an alchemist must acquaint himself with all elements used in the original object. Should he overlook anything, or perform an incorrect analysis of the object, the transmutation will not work as intended; that kind of mistake could result in no transmutation, at best, and at worst, a rebound reaction, and you really don't want that to occur. So, studying your elements and knowing them intimately is a key part of a successful transmutation ( ... )

Oh, you've read about it?

[impressed]

Well, why don't you tell me what you know, and I'll see if I can fill in any holes?

..I know about the basics, but not because I've tried it. It-- Just. How can it even work? It hasn't been recorded if someone managed to--

[lala rabi having a hard time believing alchemy works :(]

Can you demonstrate for me??

alchemyisppl October 25 2008, 21:35:32 UTC
Sure! Why don't you pick something for me to transmute, and I'd be happy to show you how it works.

passagiro October 25 2008, 21:43:17 UTC
Hm, let's see! [looks around] Can you transmute paper?

Reply

alchemyisppl October 25 2008, 21:49:07 UTC
Yep! As long as it has the same composition as the paper from back home, that should be fairly easy to do.

So like, do you need me to get anything?

alchemyisppl October 25 2008, 22:09:30 UTC

[holds up his hand]
