Cookie sat in her livingroom, staring into a bowl. It was large and quite flat, filled with water. It sat on some black cloth with lit candles around them. She took a bottle of ink and added a few drops.

"Thoth I invoke, blessed power of dreams divine,
Angel of future fates, swift wings are thine,
Great source of oracles to human kind,
When stealing soft, and whispering to the mind,
Through sleep's sweet silence and the gloom of night,
Thy power awake the sight,
To silent souls the will of heaven relates,
And silently reveals their future fates."
She stared deeply at the water for a while. And what she saw was what would have happened had she never come to the Nexus.
She would have gotten a job at a bar. She would have met a young man, asking about Borders and magic and her sister. She would have saved his life from warlocks and gone to find Lexie. They would have been on the run, Guiliano amongst those who would chase them. Lexie had known and loved the man's brother and in his care was a strange artifact known only as the Bell. They would be captured, and Lexie was cut down dead while taking down her opponent at the same time. Guiliano was a double-agent, had always been on their side. The warlocks, amongst those who killed her parents and family members would have a very old, very precious Book. And what they were searching for was the Candle, or Light, which was last in the care of her family to control the Borders, the magic, the entire world...
Cookie blinked. The images were changing again. In front of her, now, she saw the young man dead, Guiliano with the Bell. Lexie was dead, cut down much like she had been in battle before...
This was happening now. She jumped up, nearly knocking over the bowl and pinpointed away to her world.
The threads of Fate were beginning to sort themselves...
