I was reading the comments on
this concept on deviantart (as you do) and it got me thinking. This is a movie or side issue I would *love* to see.
So basically, the Joker puts together a Hunger Games-style competition with mixtures of heroes, villains, and anti-heroes; with the whole range of abilities from alien to magic to non-powered. And it's a fight-to-the-death scenario. And this would be awesome.
One of the things that I love this is how the fanbase instantly argues about whether the Batman will take the pot. It's geeky and dumb and is like 'sewious biznis!' which made me smile. I will say here that there are very few of the others that I know very much about, so I'm looking at this, like I look at all things fandom or DC, from a Batman-centric perspective.
And then you have the introduction of Deathstroke, who is apparently a tactical genius with superhuman strength and formidable combat ability. That being said, I don't know why it should be surprising that his legacy includes being able to fight Batman to a standstill. Or Nightwing, come to that, but Nightwing's not in this concept. Though if back history is includes, maybe a touch of paternal sensitivity might add a little extra spice to Batman's 'Neutralise All The Things!' freak-out.
Reading the comment, I find it funny that the first thing they fixate on is Flash taking out Batman. From my extraordinarily limited knowledge of the Flash, this would not happen. With the Reverse Flash, yes. But not Flash. Batman, standing on a pedestal in full view of everyone, with no cover and no weapons except what he has in his belt, will be very vulnerable to any and all superpowers in the circle. Taking into account the backstory means that the core JL members will band together again. And what they'll do first is make the attempt to get to cover, and to neutralise without killing.
And this is where it could get really, really chilling. Because the Joker's in charge of this game, which means there will be buttons pushed, dead ends, blind turns, and at least one inside man in the game. Someone in the comics suggested Klarion as the inside man; I don't know anything about him so I can't comment on that, but that does fit the psychology of the Joker.
You have the heroes who don't want to kill, and the villains who want revenge and don't mind killing, and you have it all in a contained space where egos, issues and back history is trapped and pitted against the worst the Joker can offer.
What could possibly not work in this storyline?!?!?!
