Anthrax with Testament and Death Angel??!! Oh, so, so tempting...
Last time I saw Anthrax, at the Button South in Ft. Lauderdale, I ended up in the ER after getting my arm sliced open on the stage by a stage diver. During the song "Caught In A Mosh." It's not just funny now, it was funny at the time. Well, except for the intense pain and bleeding part, and having to be carried out of the pit into the fenced off area by security because people were packed so tight there was no getting out any other way. (Anthrax was playing there because Iron Maiden had canceled previously at some other venue. They did that a lot.) But seriously, if I'm gonna get hurt in a mosh pit, during "Caught in a Mosh" is the time to do it. :-p
And Testament... If I'm I remembering the band correctly, I think I was 17? At the Metroplex(?) in Atlanta. A place that was famous for people slam-dancing with razor blades and throwing people off the upper levels. Memories of that show include a homeless guy sleeping out front getting smashed over the head with a beer bottle (someone else flagged down a cop: "I don't know, he just fell on the bottle!" "Oh, ok.") and another one who somehow managed to get inside and made the mistake of, I think, groping the girlfriend of the lead singer of one of the opening bands (um, Violence?). The lead singer jumped over a crowd of people 3-4 deep to land in the mosh pit and beat the crap out of him. (And I seem to remember every time he got back up, someone would just knock him down again.)
I don't remember who else I saw at the Metroplex, but I do remember me and a friend getting off at the wrong train stop. I asked some well-dressed businessman for directions, which he said he'd happily give me for a blowjob. Uh, yeah, no.
Ah, good times! \m/
And out of those three bands, it's the ONE Death Angel song that I know stuck in my head:
Welcome to the 3rd floor
It's a one way trip
Then they lock the door
