Summary: Kurt comforts Finn after the events of Sectionals
A/N: Another Prompt from Glee Kink, Someone wanted Finn and Kurt comfort...so here it is!
They had been declared the winner at sectionals and would be leaving in the morning, but while everyone else had been celebrating, Finn had ducked off to be alone. While the others had noticed at some point, none thought it was wise to disturb his solitude and that he probably needed to be alone for a little while, so when Kurt came across him in the men’s room (quite by accident) he would have left, if he hadn’t gotten a good look at Finn first.
The taller boy had his head in his hands, and he was sitting against the wall. Kurt hesitated only briefly before crossing the distance between them and squatting down, putting his hand gently on Finn’s shoulder. Finn’s head came up and Kurt saw how red and raw his eyes looked and how blotchy his face was, the look that came along with too much crying. He didn’t bother to ask if he was ok, Finn was obviously not ok, and he wouldn’t waste either of their time asking the useless question.
Once it seemed to register who was with him, Finn’s face just crumpled and more tears came. He looped an arm around Kurt’s waist pulling him forwards. Kurt dropped to his knees startled but he didn’t move away. He felt Finn’s free arm encircled him and he held him in a fierce hug, sobbing into his chest. Finn needed someone, and while he knew he had all of Glee backing him, Kurt was there right at this very moment and he wasn’t offering any sort of empty condolences.
Kurt’s thin arms rested across him, holding him tightly and he just let him cry, making soothing noises that weren’t actually words in the back of his throat. It was something Finn both needed and greatly appreciated. The fact that Kurt was just letting him be upset. The others, while he knew they meant well made him feel worse. Telling him how wrong Quinn and Puck were didn’t make him feel any better, he already knew that. He already knew that what they did was fucked up; he just wanted to be able to be upset without someone, however good their intentions may be, trying to stop him.
Kurt didn’t squirm when Finn clutched him so tightly it kind of hurt, he barely registered the fact that he was probably going to be covered in bruises because of it. His knees were aching after a few minutes but he didn’t move. Finn needed someone and well, Kurt didn’t know this particular grief, but he did know grief, he knew it well. He just did what he had wanted someone to do for him, just be there.
Finn wasn’t sure how long they stayed like that, though after a while he pulled away a little. He felt Kurt release him and he suddenly missed the contact. He really looked at Kurt then, who had remained silent through their entire encounter except to making soothing sounds like his mother sometimes did. He wondered how Kurt had gotten so good at comforting people, before he wiped his hand across his eyes and sniffled. He was sure Kurt’s knees probably hurt from kneeling for so long so Finn ambled up to his feet, and would have held out a hand to help Kurt up, but the smaller boy rocked back on his heels and stood in a single fluid motion. He watched as he adjusted his clothes slightly and a brief smile tugged at Finn’s lips.
“I know you’re probably sick of hearing it, but if you need anything I’ll be here ok?” And with that Kurt slipped back out of the bathroom, leaving Finn to try and make it look like he hadn‘t been bawling. Unlike all the others who had said the same thing though, Finn knew he would probably take Kurt up on his offer. After he managed to calm down and splash his face with cold water he waited until his eyes were just mildly pink before heading out to see if he could find out who was rooming with Kurt and switch with them.
Finn wasn’t sure why, but he felt like he might sleep better if he knew Kurt was close by. He didn’t give that particular thought much attention before going out and starting to ask who was rooming with whom.
