Oppression
Unbalance
That appears to be there fare world wide... whatever, my 'world wide' involves the States and Venezuela. I feel so sad. We have been glued to the net all night watching the closing of RCTV (Radio Caracas Television). RCTV is a TV channel in Venezuela. It is the oldest; it is free and has the greatest reach nation wide. Chavez pretty much had the channel closed, took over the station and the equipment, and started a new channel that broadcasts in agreement with his policy. An propaganda channel... it is called TVes. He should have called it Foxito.
This aberration against the Venezuelan media and its system of checks and balances is the equivalent of Bush shutting down PBS or NPR because they do not broadcast a-la-Fox-News. Can you imagine that, a governmental decree which states you cannot operate if your media outlet does not support the political views of the president?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!
What is happening in Venezuela is not much different that what happens here it is just less blatant and the 'doing' is coming from opposite political extremes, plus we Americans are on entertain-me-dope and antidepressants which prevents us from noticing and opposing the right-takeover. Poor Venezuela is experiencing a left-takeover and either extreme is proposterous.
There were pacific protests everywhere in the nation on Sunday. The protest in the Mercedes would not cease and was eventually infiltrated by 'chavistas' , guns were shot from the crowd -guns shot by infiltrators-, and the protest was ended harshly. As the protesters dispersed, a stealth reporter caught on film pacific protesters being taken by the police at gun point. That is how people disappear Jaime Trueba... that is how people disappear...
An Orwelian/Allende nightmare
PS: If you think only the bourgeois oppose Chaves, do yourself a favor and get off your lefty high horse. The rich in Venezuela are getting the hell out of that nation and the middle class ceased to exist decades ago. There are only poor people and they are stratified by education: the educated poor and the 'uneducated' poor. The educated poor refuse Chaves' totalitarian system. Most of his supporters derive from the easily manipulated, less than critical folk. In the end, educated or not diet staples such as milk, meat, rice, sugar and harina pan are difficult to get a hold of. Crime is rampant. Civil rights are nearly inexistent; and public education is a propaganda enterprise equivalent to that once found in Fascist regimes... and I have no idea what to do to change this... any of it.
