Okay, so perhaps it wasn't a good idea to cook at all. That was the second dish she'd burnt, and she figured it was time to give it up. It was a good thing that she had the hindsight to tell people to bring food. Lloyd had arrived earlier with his less than famous finger sandwiches and had gone off to the cafe to order some other (better) food for ( Read more... )

Lloyd wasn't the only one entering around that time with good food; one Ms. Fujibayashi entered not too long after Lloyd, carrying entirely too much traditional Mizuho cuisine. Putting it with the rest of the food, she took a quick look around, spotting her two friends talking and walking over.

"Glad I got here on time," she remarked, pulling out her cards and lightly fanning herself with them. "With all that stuff, I wasn't sure I was gonna make it. Need a hand with anything?"

((Stop apologizing! None of us are /really/ Colette, even if you seem to want to be! D:))

The girl paused, trying to rearrange the various boxes she had hoisted in front of her. They certainly were not too heavy for her; rather, she couldn't actually see the path with the pile obscuring her view. Readjusted, Colette continued down the path, happily whistling various songs of good cheer, although mostly out-of-tune.

The inevitable happened when the young blonde finally reached the doorway. Stepping over the threshold, she couldn't help but look back over her shoulder, slightly paranoid that Genis might somehow be there. The last thing she wanted was to ruin his surprise. However, not paying attention, it probably came as no surprised when the Chosen stumbled. She managed to keep her balance for a change, but not before sprawling boxes of various cakes and buns across the floor.

She winced sheepishly at the group assembled, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" She pressed her hands to her face, red and embarrassed, and feeling a horrible sense of deja vu.

Raine gazed at her friend and smiled. "No, you can feel free to rest; looks like you need it. I hope the trip wasn't too awful," she said, making sure to pull out a chair for the woman. She offered one of the Lloyd-made streamer necklaces as said young man went to be on the lookout for other guests. She opened her mouth in time to have Colette walk in... and make a whole new mess to deal with.

Lloyd reached out to catch Colette in case she fell, but instead managed only to catch a single box, as the girl hadn't fallen. "... hi Colette!" he said cheerfully, as if nothing had just happened. "You dork, if you needed help, you should have asked. I would have come right over."

Still, no point in crying over spilt pastries. The brunette quickly went to salvage the non-damaged boxes and then toss the pastries and containers that were less than fortunate. After that, he sheepishly smiled and offered a streamer necklace. "You didn't hurt yourself, right?" He inspected. "Okay, good. Genis won't be here for a while, so relax!"

Though the summoner had indeed yelled "Surprise!" alongside everyone else, she was a little more leery of Mithos than Colette, and thus had broken off of what was becoming the 'center' of the party in fairly short order.

Needless to say, she was a little surprised when she noticed that, of all the possible people to mirror her decision to remain relatively quiet as far as Mithos was concerned, /Zelos/ was the one who had actually followed through with it. She wasn't exactly fond of /him/, either, but... she could share a /few/ words with him, right?

"Hello, Chosen," she greeted, though it wasn't exactly pleasant -- more of an offhand, slightly bitter comment, one which it sounded like she was trying to get out as quickly as possible.

"Hey, hunny," a pretty standard greeting. He might have made a little more effort not to irritate her if she hadn't decided to call him 'Chosen' rather than by his name. Still, it was gratifying that she'd decided to hang back and talk to him rather than rush forward to greet Yggdrasill.

He favoured her with a smile, "We'll, aren't we a miserable pair?" he crossed his arms, looking her over, "I suppose we should try be a little more festive, hmm? Unless you'd rather we," he smirked, "Had a little party of our own?"

Now he was trying to piss her off. He couldn't help himself; the fact she took the bait almost every time actually made it more fun.

Needless to say, Sheena took the bait. It wasn't entirely her fault -- Zelos knew full well that that was one of her various buttons! Though, conversely, the 'Chosen' comment had been chosen to hit /his/ buttons... so perhaps she deserved exactly what she got.

"With you? The last thing /that/ would be is festive," she replied in short order. "I can't believe you, though! It's Genis's birthday! You don't -- you don't /do that/ at a friend's birthday party!"

Ah, sweet, predictable Sheena. He raised an eyebrow, a mock expression of surprise and disgust on his face, "I know it's Genis's birthday, but don't you think that would be an inappropriate present for a young boy? Honestly, Sheena, what do you take me for!"

Once the surprise was over with and Genis had accepted Colette's offer of cookies, Presea began to approach the young half-elf. She was uncertain of how to do this properly, but she felt that it was not acceptable to leave things hanging, and with Colette conversing with Mithos, Sheena with Zelos, and Raine with Lloyd, it would be a shame to leave Genis be, even if he was enjoying cookies and presents.

Presea frowned at Mithos as she passed him by. She bore no love for the former leader of Cruxis; it was he, after all, who had indirectly caused Alicia's death... Were it not for Yggdrasill, sacrifices to the Cruxis Crystal, and Colette's suffering, would never have occurred. However, he was here for Genis, and speaking politely enough to Colette, so while Presea kept an eye on him, she did not bother him.

Instead, she sat down next to the birthday boy and offered him a smile. "Hello, Genis," Presea said. "It has...been a long time, hasn't it?"

An oatmeal cookie in mouth, Genis had been just about to open Colette's presence when he noticed Presea heading over his way. Ever the coward, he had frozen, panicking, and at the last second pushed the present aside without opening it and turned to face the pigtailed girl.

Thankfully, the cookie gave him a tiny bit of grace period in which to try to calm down. It didn't work all that well, considering how pink his cheeks had gone already. Genis couldn't tell that, true, but anyone who looked his way would, and he glanced nervously over in Mithos's and then Zelos's directions.

Once he finished the cookie, Genis managed a tiny smile at his former crush. "H...hi, Presea. It has." He paused. "Um...how've you been? You look well..."

"I have been, thank you," Presea replied, maintaining her polite smile. She couldn't help but pity Genis. As far as she could see, he hadn't changed in the least... Still a sweet, timid boy; surely still just as wise and intelligent. She liked him that way--she just...wasn't interested in him the way he had been her. "Restoration of Ozette has been proceeding well. Kate and I have created many wonderful memories together... However, I have missed you all. I am glad that I noticed Raine's invitation in time to arrive in a punctual manner."

Presea paused, then glanced over at the present that Genis had partially unwrapped. "There is something I wish to discuss with you, Genis. However, it can wait until festivities are complete. Are you not going to finish opening that?"

"O-oh, you did? Wow... I'm glad you managed to come, too, Presea. I've...wondered about you from time to time. You know, how you were doing, if you were all right ( ... )
