Tonight I went to see
Dreamgirls, which I'd been meaning to see since it came out. I really liked it, but I like musicals anyway. I was really impressed by Jennifer Hudson. Since I don't watch American Idol, I hadn't really heard her sing before. Then I came right home and purchased the soundtrack on iTunes, which I am listening to now. I went with my friend Lisa, who I hadn't seen in awhile. We had dinner at Wendy's and then went to the movies. It was damn cold in that theater. It reminded me of going to the movies in the summer when the A/C is on full blast. They had the poster for
The Simpsons Movie up in the lobby.
There was a trailer for
Hairspray, the new movie based on the Broadway musical based on the John Waters film of the same name. I had no interest in this latest incarnation until tonight when I found out Queen Latifah is in it, so maybe I'll see it after all. The trailer showed no scenes from the upcoming movie, just listed the names of the main stars. But it got my attention.
The Academy Awards are coming up in a few weeks, and I'm pretty behind in seeing any of the nominated films/performers. So far all I've seen are Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson, nominated for Dreamgirls, and Will Smith, nominated for The Pursuit of Happyness. I've seen none of the Best Picture Nominees. I make it my goal to see at least 3 out of 5 by the time of the awards. I will try to see The Queen this weekend. And Little Miss Sunshine is out on DVD, and I know I'll like that, I just never got around to seeing it. I also would like to see Babel, but the remaining two, The Departed and Letters from Iwo Jima, I really have no desire to see.
Tomorrow I'm meeting Jen, and maybe Lisa, for lunch at Penguin! Sweet potato fries...here I come. I'm finally following up on the commitment I made to myself before my cruise that I'd start spending more time with friends again.
