34 Years and 2 Days

My birthday weekend is coming to a close. Other than the fact that the Red Sox have been completely unable to stop the Yankees from scoring, it's been great.

Friday night (my actual birthday), I went out to dinner with the 3rd Friday group to Lotus Buffet. So this wasn't anything specific for my b-day, it's a group of people who meet once a month, and this time it just happened to be on my birthday. I sat with the 2 Lisas and Lyn. I think the Lisas would have gone out afterwards, but I didn't want to get over-socialed, so I went to do some errands and came home. I bought some clipboards for Pride (for a survey we're going to be doing), and some last-minute party stuff at Harris Teeter.

Yesterday I spent most of the day cleaning & getting ready for the party. I made a loaf of Tastefully Simple Beer Bread, and Garlic Garlic Spread (their dried garlic product, plus cream cheese & butter) and Spinach Herb Dip. I also put out chips & salsa, but people brought so much food: quiche, chicken nuggets, taco dip, and 2 cakes! So I'll be eating leftover party food for awhile.

People starting getting here right around 4, and it worked out pretty well as far as some people coming early and leaving, and other people coming later. My place is pretty small, so if everyone had showed up at once it would have been pretty crowded. I invited John from work and his wife and FOUR BOYS, ages 9 and under. It was pretty crazy when they were here, but they didn't stay very long. We played a couple of games, 1972 Trivia and Trivia about me. I gave out prizes. The last people still here were Jen & Carie (and Xander, who was asleep in the Pack n Play upstairs), who live in the same small town in SC, but had never met each other before. People brought me presents, including a lot a gift cards, so I can do some shopping at Lowe's, Target, and Barnes & Noble. I think everyone had a pretty good time.

Gizmo is so friendly. He was in the midst of everyone the whole time, making new friends and getting petted. I think he also might have drank beer. I saw him licking a liquid that had spilled on the floor, which I suspect was beer. Sandy spent the whole time upstairs hiding, and didn't come downstairs until it was just Jen and Carie.

Less than a week until Pride! Well actually, the first event is tomorrow, a discussion of homosexuality & the Bible, and there's already a discrepancy over what time it starts and whether or not there's a covered dish dinner afterwards. So hopefully that can get worked out SOON.

birthday, pride, friends, cats, weekends
