The Secret is Out!

Today was the day we announced (finally) the date & location for Pride. It was supposed to be a press conference, but only one media person showed up. It was disappointing. There is a PGA tournament in town this week, so the guy who did come said most of the news people are there and there aren't a lot of extra reporters to spare. But at least it's no longer a secret. August 26th at Gateway Center, in Uptown Charlotte. Mark your calendars! I took the afternoon off from work because I figured I wouldn't feel like going back to the office for 2 or 3 hours on a Friday. I stayed at the center to help get ready for tomorrow's yard sale. This guy Austin & I went over to a church to pick up some tables they'd offered to lend, but when we got there, it turned out the tables were 8 feet, not 6 feet, so they wouldn't fit in Austin's car. Then we were off to Costco to buy some food that will be sold at the block party, but I think I got in the way more than helped. It was pretty much a waste of an afternoon off. Except I did go to The Penguin for sweet potato fries and a burger before I came home. I decided to take city streets home instead of highways. I'm sure it took a lot longer, but it was more interesting. I saw a guy run right into traffic at a busy intersection and almost get hit by a car. I also noticed that there are 4 Family Dollar stores between the Community Center and where I live.

I had meant for tonight to be productive. I figured I'd come home and do some cleaning or something, but the only thing I really felt like doing was sorting through the photo box. Again. I originally did it a few nights ago. I went through this big box of photos and sorted out a bunch for Mike. I think when Zack died, he asked if I'd give him some extra pictures of him, since I ended up with nearly all the pics after we split up. I guess I never did, so I figured now would be a good time to go through and get those, along with a whole bunch of his family, his friends, etc. that I think he'll like to have. I also had wedding pictures from the 3 weddings I attended in 2003, which I'll distribute to the respective couples, who I am happy to report are all still together! I went through again tonight, and was a lot more generous, particularly to the "Mike" pile and the "trash" pile. I used to think that throwing out a photo was some sort of mortal sin, so I had a lot of pictures that were like "why the hell do I have 2 copies of Bugs Bunny's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?"

The home inspection was today. I only stopped by for a minute, but I think it went okay. There are a few minor things that will need to be painted, caulked, etc (so I'll need to either learn how to do that stuff or find someone to do it for me!) but nothing major. My real estate agent will get the full report tomorrow. I also got the mortgage paperwork sent in, which was about 25 pages (legal-sized) of stuff that required various combinations of signatures/initials/dates, and then a bunch of copies of bank statements and things.

Tomorrow is the "PrideSavers" Yard Sale/Block Party. I had been looking forward to it, but after today I am feeling kind of discouraged and don't feel like dealing with anything this weekend. But I am already committed to volunteer. I just hope people show up. It pisses me off how people complain that there's never anything to do, but then when there is something, they don't go.

This was a long week. I'm so glad it's over. I better get to bed...long day tomorrow.

house, pride
