I brought Oliver and Captain home from Charleston today. I now have FOUR cats in my under 1000 square foot townhouse. When I went out there last weekend, I found they had a very bad flea problem. I have never had issues with fleas here in Charlotte, so I think the climate in Charleston (more hot & especially more humid) is very conducive to fleas. Poor Captain was rubbing his fur off in patches in spots from all the scratching, and he had scabs all over. We gave them a flea treatment, and during the week Frank set off some flea bombs in his room. When I came back this weekend, they still had fleas, and they were staying on the back screen porch because the room was still being treated. We gave them another treatment on Saturday. We stayed in a hotel, and didn't get back to the house until today. This time the fleas were gone. Captain is easy to check because he has white/light colored fur, and Oliver I checked with a comb. Since the fleas were gone, Frank didn't want to bring them back inside, in case there were still fleas in his room, and we think the boys were wearing out their welcome on the porch! So, I decided to bring them home.
I had planned to leave Charleston around 3, but we ended up packing up the cats and I left around 2. I was expecting to get home just before 6, but I hit some horrible traffic pretty much the whole way from I-95 to Columbia, so that added on about an extra hour to the drive. When I stopped for gas, I saw that Captain had barfed in his crate, so I cleaned it. When we got home, I found he had also pooped in the back. He's not a very good car rider. But they were a lot quieter than I thought they'd be.
Sandy is hanging out in her usual hiding places- on top of the fridge, on top of the armoire. Captain is acting pretty normal, and Benji doesn't seem to be phased by the sudden doubling of the cat population. And Oliver keeps growling at Benji. Benji and Oliver are both solid black. When Benji gets bigger, I don't know how I'm going to tell them apart!
